factory pioneer subwoofer amp question/lexus sc400

Alright, I have been using my carputer for a month with my factory amps and the highs work pretty well, but the subwoofer amp volume is inconsistent. I'm beginning to think that the amp may take speaker level inputs. This seems strange to me b/c the amp for the highs takes low level inputs. Is there a way to test the inputs on the amp to see which type it takes? I'm using an audigy zs pcmcia with the amps and the front and rear are plugged into the front and rear inputs for the highs amp, and the sub is plugged into the output for sub/center on the audigy zs. Anyone know where I should start?

I'm guessing you've wired it up wrong. You have 3 wires (+ve, -ve & ground). You need to either:-

1) provide a balanced input by using a converter box

or

2) connect mono line out +ve to the +ve input (I think) and ground the -ve input. Connect line out ground to the ground connection. You line-level will be low in this case so you need to boost it a bit.

Do a search on soarercentral.com.

I've wired my 4-channel amp in last weekend on my Soarer (Japanese version of SC400). I'll be doing the sub-amp this coming weekend

when i had my Soarer i just took the factory amplifiers and threw them in the trash, i hooked up a 4 channel 400W JVC amp for my components and a RF punch 75 for my sub, i left the factory components alone and they sounded great... i also used a Pioneer DEQ7500 to control the volume levels and balance out the sound...

MAN I MISS THAT CAR

Good news, I made it work. It was a problem with my wiring partially. I recrimped all of my wires and that helped. I guess I didn't crimp some of them enough. Boosting is indeed imperative. I went into my audigy zs effects control panel and told it to boost the frequencies below 149hz. This gave me LOTS of bass. . .Way too much, actually. I counteract this through the winamp equalizer by reducing the lowest of bass frequencies. Odd thing is that it is very good on some songs, but not on others.

I considered doing this, but the loudness of the factory amps is actually sufficient for me. I can't afford audio right now b/c I'm saving for performance parts (exhause / supercharger).

I finally got around to doing the sub-amp this weekend. It worked first time as well \o/

Basically...

1) pin 5 Sub- to ground
2) pin 6 Amp + to power antenna, amp enable or ACC
3) pin 1 Sub+ to phono centre pin
4) pin 7 to phono ground

pins 3 + 4 should already have power on them.
