Kicker Solobaric L7 12"
just wanted to give a shout out to the best darn subwoofer ever made!!! Im running a 2 farad cap, a 1600W SPL amplifier, 0 guage wire to a single Kicker Solobaric 12" sub and it blew two JL W7 12" subs out of the water... All i have to say is you have to hear it to understand, no competition... as soon as i get done fiberglassing a new box im adding a second one, as if i really need it.

The L7's are nice subs no doubt about it. I had 2 12" L7's in a custom ported box. I powered it with a memphis belle amp and they knocked. But now i have 1 12W7 with a 1000/1 amp and I think the 12W7 blows the 2 L7's away. But then again it all depends on your liking....

I just put a 15 L7 in my brother's Yukon. I was pretty impressed with the output of just one sub. I'm giving it 800watts from a JBL1200.1. But I know 2 12" W7's would be louder and cleaner than a 12" L7. There is definitely something wrong with that guys setup if his W7 aren't as loud as your L7. Maybe he is seriously under powering them. All variables the same, 2 W7's should be quite a bit louder/cleaner than one L7.

he had the same amp as me, not sure how he had the gain or how his crossover was set up, but he was even convinced. Another thing that might have helped is the fact that mine is in a hatchback and his was a trunk.

Hmm, yeah the hatchback definitely makes a difference. Also what is the model of the amp you're using because if you're saying that it's 1600watts peak then it could be closer to like 800wrms meaning he's putting 400watts to a W7 which won't get that sub even close to it's xmas.

I had 400W going to a single 12" JL 12W6V2 in a sealed box. I was able to reach 143 db in a hatchback honda civic.
Moved the same setup to my current car. Best I did was 132 DB with the rear seats folded down.
Some cars just work better for SPL.
You want loud? Hatchback, truck, wagon + proper placement + proper tuning.

True, True!!! I did notice one thing about kicker and JL though, JL component speakers definately sound better than Kicker ones... but as far as the subs go as of right now i think Kicker has the upper hand. I would definately like to see if someone can prove me wrong then i will invest in a pair of W7's and have a system that really rocks

Apples and oranges. You had a 12w6v2 which is totally different from the W7. Are you saying that if 400w is enough to push your 12w6v2 then it's enough to push the w7 just as loud? I don't think that's true. Consider this anology...You take a c5 corvette (350hp) and put it up against a civic (190hp?) then the corvette will be faster. But if you apply only 190hp to the vette I bet the civic will be faster. Point being W7 has more mass and a greater distance to move (xmas on W7 1.15" vs your sub's .65") So it's going to require more power to get the desired output than your 12w6v2.

i dont think he was comparing the w6 to the w7, rather the hatch compared to a sedan

Precisely. Hatch vs. Sedan.
Using my same equipment, I moved it from a civic hatchback to my current Mazda6 sedan.
Of course I am not trying to set any SPL records so I don't care. I'm more of an SQ guy.
