Elemental Designs or Alpine audio setup?
I have whittled my audio setup to two brands: Alpine and Elemental Designs. Below are the packages for both:
Elemental Designs: $330
Nine.2 Amp
11Kv.2 Dual 2 Ohm Sub
Alpine: $268
V-Power 600W Subwoofer Amp (Mono)
Alpine SWR-1042D - Dual Voice Coil, 4 Ohm
I'm really tempted to give eD a try, but I can't beat the price I'm getting for the Alpine stuff. Is there a CLEAR difference between the two, or is it all brand name marketing?

if you purchase before feb 1st you can get a smoking deal on the ed gear:
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/adv...words=discount
$290 but that is for the nine.2x...600 wrms @ 4 ohms...which that ed sub can handle.
but the prices end feb 1st.
i'd try ed based on thier rep. i have heard the nine.1 and i own six eu-700's (going to be selling them soon... they just didn't fit my application) but the build quality looks pretty good imho

Alpine has a lot better rep Scott. there are to many bad things about the owner Ben. I wouldnt support him, main reason i got rid of my NINe1. sure its solid amp, but if the owner isnt respectbale i wouldnt want anything to do with him. but lets not start an anti eD thread discusion...
I think you would have a lot of fun with the Type R, i've sen people give them 1k without a problem(dont just throw 1000 dirty watts at it though lol)

ah, sorry you had a bad experience with ED. i haven't experienced that as of yet. I haven't had any personal experience with the type-r subs but from what i've read, they are some great subs. Personally I don't think he could go wrong either way...

I'm going to recomend the Alpine stuff.
I've not had any first hand experiences with eD. however, I have a hard time telling someone to go with a relatively small name when they are comparing them to a well known name brand like Alpine...and especially for the prices.
On a side note: Scott, I find it funny that no one really gives you grief for recomending eD to people, yet I get it all the time if I recomend anything Focal or Steg...lol Mind you, there's no hard feelings about it at all....just a funny observation I've made over time.

lol... are you giving me grief then? I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that ED isn't that expensive. I also usually recommend ED when people are concerned with budget and i've never taken a firm stand on them either way. I think they are a great product for the price but i do have my allegiances... and it's not with ED. I tend to keep quiet about my prefered amp manufacturer because i think there is a prejudice against people that like tube amps... i get the impression that most people think that we assume our gear is the best becasue it's 'tube'. I am actually the same way about my car, i never drop the type of car i have either because of the stereotypes and prejudices surrounded by them. I just like what i like and thats it :-)

hehe - there's nothing wrong with tubes. Especially butlers...
I've run into quite a few folks that have the attitudes that you talk about, especially about the car. Heck, there was a guy on here not too long ago that decided he wanted to get into it...funny, haven't seen him since.
Bah - doesn't make any difference. We all have our experiences and we all like what we like for a reason. One of these days I'll have to get my hands on some eD stuff.
