Taking internal amp out of head unit.

I was wondering if anyone knows how feasible it is to take the internal amp out of a standard 50x4 watt head unit. The wattage output can vary, those aren't strict figures.

I want to build my own integrated double DIN case, where the entire carputer goes in where the head unit would go, and the monitor would be right there.

I have seen some people on this forum do this, so I know it's possible. I want to include as many accessories as possible in this unit so I don't have a bunch of external devices and cables running everywhere.

That being said, I refer back to the original question of ripping the internal amplifier out of a head unit and putting it in a carputer case. How feasible is this? I want to use the internal amplifier of a head unit because they're designed to fit in a head unit, so I assume they would be small by default.

It should be relatively obvious when you crack open the case to the headunit where it is. You probably won't be able to seperate it from the main circuit board. You should see some relatively large caps to smooth out the high notes, and then probably quite a few transistors not in surface mouint DIP packages but the 3 pin black head ones. Easiest way to find out I think would be to trace the speaker connects back to around this area, and then hook the HU up to a power source and try to feed sound of some sort through the circuit and see where it is when sound shoots out the other end amplified! Of course do that only after you have a pretty good idea where it is, and are just getting to find out which is which channel and ground/positive supply.

your best/easiest bet is to purchase two sonic impact t-amps, gut it and use those chip amps to run your speakers.
if you're handy with a soldering iron then go to www.41hz.com and purchase a more powerful chip amp kit and you'll be good to go. do a search for member 'zapwizard' in these forums and you can follow his lead since he has already done what you want to do

check out amp9 or a pair of amp3 or amp4's

this link will show you how small the sonic impact t-amp is when you take it out of the case:
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/sonicimpact/t_3.html

you can mod that amp with some bigger caps and improve the bass output.

Would the 100w output blow conventional car speakers?

if you're talking about the amp9; it's 4x60 rms and as long as you don't crank it towards distortion levels, you should be fine.
