These speakers good

I recently posted about the size for front speakers on a 1st gen interpid.
I found someone selling speakers, the model is Alpine Coaxial 5 1/4" SPS-130A, i was wondering if these are good speakers, the are 30watts rms, and i was also wondering if these just screw in, or if i have to mount something to it to make it stay.

Thanks alot, btw they are 45$, i think that is a fair price

alpine isn't bad....but why are you going with coaxials and not compo upfront?

compo speakers are separate speakers... coaxials aren't THAT bad, but they're far from ideal.

compo-sets have a separate tweeter and midrange/kick, which gives you more options in placement and soundstage....

with coaxials it's very hard to create a nice soundstage. Since a tweeter is very direct, you're gonna have a hard time getting your high frequencies upfront. they're gonna stay at your feet and your soundstage will....well..... suck actually....

well the thing is, you have to have a deck that can seperate frequencies right? not to sure on this but it makes sense, my deck does not do that....for my sub i have to filter out the high frequencies b/c i dont have sub out..
if im incorrect on any of this, please correct me

it has nothing to do with your deck.... it has to do with cross-overs. some decks have them built-in but that are mostly the more expensive ones. Now wether you buy coaxials or compo's... they always have a set of crossovers with them, so you don't need to worry about that.

Actually, the crossovers are really what gives component sets the advantage. Especially, since lots of coaxials have swivel mounts. Take a look at a comp sets x-over network, versus the wimpy coax capacitor crossover.

The deck crossover will only handle the high pass to filter out the sub frequencies on the front/rear channels, and possibly low pass the bass on the sub out. You'd still need a x-over to cut the bass from the tweeter.

I couldn't disagree with you more.... sure the x-overs on compo's are better to adjust and tweak, but to the average listener it won't really make a difference....

If your speakerplacement sucks you will never get a good soundstage, wether you have expensive topnotch x-overs or just inlines.... If your tweeters are playing at your knees or feet or whatever, you can tweak and tune all you want, the stage won't get to your ears....

edit: asuming you're not putting them at your feet making use of the natural obstructions of your car.... 'cause sometimes they might give the best stage put at your feet even...

look at the more advanced decks and get amazed with the possibilities. I know alot of people who run their compo's straight of the HU with the built-in x-overs, and even compete.... look at some high-range pioneers, clarions, alpines... and i think even some beckers and nakamishi's have them (although i'm not sure, because those brands go straight to SQ and kept simple as possible.... they don't even got an EQ...)

The x-overs make a huge difference. Low frequencies just don't sound good through a tweeter. Besides, we both agree that components are better, the mounting flexability is awesome, I just don't think the x-overs get a enough credit....

Those high end decks are neat, but most of em need seperate amplifiers. The ones that have built in amps still don't really have a crossover that will work with a mid/tweet. I suppose you could use th front left/right for mids, and rear left/right. But that would be weird. Besides, I couldn't handle non externally amped front speakers. There's no way a deck could put out enough power for me...

I'm definatly not saying X-overs don't make a huge difference.... only, for the regular joe it won't matter....

if he's looking at the $45 range, components aren't exactly in his price range.

For $45, go for the coaxials.
