Wiring a Subwoofer

I have 1 12" Type-R, DVC 4ohm+4ohm and a Kenwood KAC-9102D Amp

The "legal" ways to wire it through parallel or series.

I know it is possible to run this amp/sub combo in a way to get a 4 ohm impedance because i have been told it is by professional installers, but they can't tell me how or they will lose their jobs, etc.

how do i do this?

and if it really isnt possible how do i turn down the 850watt rms this app puts out so i dont super-overpower my sub?

they can't tell you or they'll lose their jobs? load of crap!!!

wire them in stereo = 4 Ohm (you'll need a 2-channel or dual mono amp, so that's out of the question in your case)
wire them in parallel = 2 Ohm
wire them in series = 8 Ohm

well the bestbuy installer told me the thing was possible with this amp, but if not im not spending 80 bucks to have it installed. how would i turn down the power of the amp? 850 rms would blow a type-r wouldnt it?

I wouldnt worry too much about that! Those numbers are just numbers. They use them to sell amps.

kenwood might not be the major brand, but I doubt if these numbers are just a trick...

How much does it put out at 2Ohms and what are the fuse-ratings?

um well

Rated Power Output:
4ohms (.5% THD):500watts x 1
2ohms (.9% THD): 850watts x 1

Fuse Ratings:
2 30amp Fuses and 1 40amp fuse

even it is a trick its still a good 350 watts over the max for the sub. its almost enough to power two

ok, that will be about 600-700watts at 12v. Those 850watts are probably rated at 14volt or so....

I looked up the specs of the sub.... 500wrms, right? In that case I shouldn't worry about overpowering..... Just be carefull when you tune your amp and the sub will handle the output just fine

yea the amp runs at 14.4volts

so i tihnk i got this install under control. anything else i should know able? im just gunna run them in series for a 2ohm load in a sealed box (but only because its in an accord)

I'd do some more reading if I were you.... your amp doesn't run at 14.4v... It fluctuates between 12 (can be a little less) and 14.4 (can be little more).

You have to run them PARALLEL. If you run them in series you'll have an 8Ohm load, which will result in app 50% powerloss.

the parallel is what i meant oops

and the manual for the amp is sitting right in from...it actually says:
"14.4 V (11-16 V allowable)"

Focus on the (11 - 16 V allowable). That's the fluctuation I was talking about. That 14.4 V just means they measured the output at 14.4 V instead of 12 V

well, the fluctuation results also in a power-fluctuation, meaning: power drops, volume drops/power raises, volume raises. But don't worry, if you're wiring is correct, you won't notice the fluctuation.
