Toslink input -> RCA output. Where can I get a converter like this?
I've searched the forum, looked at the FAQ...am I just missing it / something or is this a hard one to find?
Related to my other thread: I want to use the optical out from the PC and I have amps without optical input...so I need something in the middle to convert it.
Thanks,
Per

Zapco Right? They make and optical D/A convertor to symblink. Let me try to locate the model number. Otherwise there is a sticky in the car audio FAQ for processors that will do much more than what you are asking too (Alipne PXA-h701 with RUX-c701 controller is one of them )
Did you have a budget you were working with?

Zapco DAII-SL but it's $1000. You might find it used on ebay. BUt if you were going to spend that much there are plenty of other options for less than that.
How many analog channels did you need the D/A convertor to output?
Also, since you have the zapco amps, they accept balanced inputs correct? Balanced is desidned to reject analog nosie and it works (thats basically how most cars communication lines work between incar electronics). So you could also go with another one of their symilink boxes.

what you are looking for is exactly what a 'dac' is. there is a sticky about them here:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...ewpost&t=88000
i have a crystal dac that is going to be hard for you to find one, but it's exactly what you are looking for. there are plenty of other manufacturer for dac's with balanced outputs (since you have zapco amps w/ balanced inputs you may as well take advantage of it) A couple that come to mind are some older 'coustic' dacs, the zapcos as mentioned above and the twisted pear audio balanced dac. i can't stress how great the guys at twisted pear treated me, going far above and beyond the call of duty. they have a dac with balanced outs that would be perfect for you w/o breaking the bank. you'd probably want to add some sort of volume control after the dac (for the best sound quality) so you may be able to work out a deal with them for a package with the joshua tree attenuator (the quality of this piece ASTOUNDS me)
anyways, here is there website:
http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/
i have no affiliation with them, just i know when i find a company that treats me well and they'll have my loyalty.

hahahaha. I thought he was the same guy. I had to go back and look later just to make sure. Then I posted in there too just in case. So many good threads lately makes it hard to keep track.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the input. I think I'll - one more friggen time - see what else I can ground on the PC, try one last external sound card located further away from the PC, and see what happens. If there'd be something around $100-200 to take optical in and produce RCA or balanced out, I'd be ecstatic, but it doesn't seem like I'll get that lucky.
scott fx - -anymore info on the specific model you're referencing? if it's exactly what I want, i'll invest some time hunting for it ;-) . I'll also, in the meantime, see what twisted pear audio has to say..thanks for that pointer.

not sure which one you're talking about, if it's the zapco product that model no. was mentioned above but it costs a lot of $$$$
the twisted pear is inyour budget and is called the opus dac. also go on ebay and try to find a 'coustic' dac. the older ones had balanced outs

You might want to check out the ADS DAC its cheap at 40 or so dollars... it has toslink in and out along w/ rca in and out. It might be worth your while.
