One of the component speaker blew. Need advice on replacement

As the title says, one of my component speakers blew a couple of months ago, so now I want to replace it. They were a set of 6.5" Kicker components. I will be replacing it with a traditional 2 or 3-way 6.5" speaker setup. Now my question is this: the tweeters used with the component setup are perfectly fine, so how would I go about connecting them to the new speakers? Should I just connect them in parallel?

Not a good idea. If I were you, I'd buy a pear of kickbass speakers and a set of filters.... If you but a 2-way or 3-way, the high frequencies are gonna mess up your sound because of the 4(!) tweeters. By the way, the inline-filter that comes with a 2-way isn't designed to handle the load you're gonna put through it by connecting an extra set of tweeters to them.

Would you consider using a set of old filters that came with the old component system? Although I have a feeling it will kill the high frequencies of the new speakers. Right?

most filters are especially designed to fit the tweeter and kickbass that are being combined in the set-up, so using an old pair of filters that came with a totally different set isn't going to help your sound-quality-wise...... The load a certain filter can handle is verry different.... Best thing for you to do is design a filter for the components you're going to use. You could go with a prefab filter that's designed for an allround use, but I would recomend against it strongly, because of the loss of sound-quality most of the times.

Thanks, IC-C30. I guess I'll have to look at other options when choosing a new speaker system

are you all that concerned about high SQ? otherwise a cheap active x-over could save you. just buy a set of kickbass speakers and such an x-over. I think you can get it for like $50 or something.
