ok so the more ive thought about it the more i realise for my first box i need to go more basic. I photoshoped a real quick sketch of what im redoing tomorrow. Basically making the sub holes straight instead of angled, making the rear a little sloped then to a drop. The front angled down like i was planning. i probably wont have pics of the new form until saturday, but heres the rough sketch. Measure ments arent exact, but dang close. C&C welcome. I'm thinking of using old underarmor shirts, they absorb well so im thinking they would be good. I have 3 of them so i got plenty of fabric.
EDIT: I'm laughing at my pathetic draft.

if it's just going to be a rectangular cube then i'd suggest just making it all out of wood. what are your restrictions with the box design?

it wont be cubed, i was just planning that as a rough, the edges will be rounded, ive read fiberglass isnt very strong in long straight coats. As for restrictions, if your meaning what i can do as far as the box goes, i dont think there are any.

Even though you say you can pick up each side, it's still not sturdy enough. A thin strip of plywood is not sturdy.
You will need to STRETCH the material, not just pull it a bit taught.
user thicker pieces and preferably MDF (it won't splinter like plywood will.)
The ring needs to be made out of MDF as well. Plywood just doesn't lend its self well to this stuff.

did you just read my first post? lol ive already redone it. I'm going out into my garage in a few to finish up putting the fabric on. It looks like my little diagram deal, except its only about 10" high. Still the same width and length though. I'll get pics tonight, im glassing it saturday. Keepin ya updated.
Oh the wood i used was a thick 2X2 inch wood for the supports, and the base and rings are a 3 layered wood. It's not plywood. I'm hoping it works.

you shouldn't need different pieces of fabric.....should buy enough of it to get it done in one pull. You don't want a seam in this project because you will have issues with it.

ok thats what i figured. ill see how much a cheap fleece is at walmart or something, i might end up tearing it down once more. I need some thicker rings too i think. ill see what i can do though. What do all you guys do about the bottom of your boxes. Do you just leave them bare wood?

It depends on what it's sitting on. In our car, it's just left bare.

HUH? What layered wood is NOT plywood? Layered wood IS exactly what plywood means. Plywood is made from layering long sheets of wood veneer. The strenght is acheived by alternating the direction of grain of each sheet. Unlike MDF where the strength is acheived by compression of fibers and density. Anyway, MDF makes a slightly better choice for your project because of density and reflexive properties. However, plywood will work too providing that
a. Its not regular grade douglas fir, spruce or pine.
b. It is larger than 1/2".
Material? Fleece. Use it. Its cheap and available in huge sheets at walmart. One piece for smooth, easy transitioning. Pull it down to the bottom and staple and glue it to the bottom. Unless you fear that one day one of your buddies is going to climb into the Blazer, flip the box upside down, look at the unfinished bottom and laugh at you, then don't sweat it. Good luck.
