speaker RMS question

i have got 2 of MBQaurt discus with power handling between 30-70watt

i would like to put them to use, i have found a small radioshack amplifier on ebay which is rated @ 40 watt @ 4 ohm.

question?

if you have to of those speakers. obviously i will have to connect them as an 8 ohm, but the the RMS would be reduced from 40 x 1 to as 20 x 2 , would this small amplifier power those 2 speakers, i am not looking for loud, but rather a small stereo build up

Is it 40Wx2? or 40Wx1?

If its 40WX1 and you are going to wire them in series, then it will reduce power output to 20x1 and then dived that by 2 again so each speaker would see 10W.

is your amp rated at anything other than 4ohm? With a 2 ohm load they would be each seeing 40W.

the amp can be @ 4, 8, 16 ohms

so if i am hooking up 4 ohm speakers, i will need to use 8 ohm plug

That's a PA amplifier.

Look for 'car audio' amplifiers. They run on 12v and have the proper outputs for speakers.
