subwoofer in wrong sealed enclosure?
Hey am new here i guess you can tell my question is i purchased or i won one of these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting
and wanted to chance that sub and install a JL Audio 10W7 subwoofer but the enclosure i purchased has an Enclosure Volume of : .8 Cubic Ft. and the w7 has an Enclosure Recommendations:
Sealed Range: 1.00 - 1.375 cu. ft. (28.3 - 38.9 ltrs)
Recommended Sealed Volume: 1.25 cu. ft. (35.4 ltrs.)
Fc: 44.7 Hz
F3: 40.7 Hz
Qtc: 0.785
would these 2 units work fine or shoul o considder a new enclosure? any help is better than no help.
Ps: i will be powering the w7 with Phoenix Gold Octane-R 8.0:1 800w bridge at 2 ohm.

First of all, the W7 isn't going to remotely fit in there. The magnet won't even have clearance I don't think. Secondly, it would blow that enclosure to bits. . If you are going to run a sub that serious, you need to get a serious enclosure. Honestly, the W7 is pretty picky about Clearence and its got a displacement of 0.09 cu. ft and a mounting depth of 8"!!! Find an enclosure built for the W7 or have one made.
23mm EXCURSION too. Just to give you an idea, infinity 10" subs are typically like 12mm.

You would have to ask JL to provide tech specs about mounting depth and volume and such. That is built specifically for a 10" woofer that is not even in the same ballpark as the W7. You seeem to think that a 10" sub is a 10" sub. Thats not the case however. Enclosures are built for SPECIFIC subs in order to obtain full performance. You need to find an enclosure that is designed with the performance of a W7 in mind.

nope neitheir enclosure will work. You will have to get a W7 specific enclosure. The mounting diameter of the W7 line is smaller then other woofers the same diameter. for instance the 12 W7s mounting hole is 10.5" as where the 12 W3s mounting diameter is 11.0625". Jl did this for a reason, the woofer needs to be in a properly built enclosure

To make one?? I'm not sure what you are asking. Anything can be made. Are you asking if you could have one made? Or if you could buy one?

I can't answer that just by a picture. I would need access to the specs of that enclosure, but I think that Website is gone. What exactly do you want? You are looking for a box to fit customly in your VW trunk as apposed to something generic that would just sit in the trunk? If you are looking for a vehicle specific enclosure, I do not know of any that will fit your vehicle that will accomodate a W7. You may have to have one made.

Yes with the proper specs an enclosure could be made. Your only obstacle is how much space are you willing to give up. Have you ever done fiberglass work before? If not then I would try a small project before doing a sub enclosure especially an enclosure for a W7 that will have to be a very thick enclosure.

Ok here are a few pictures of cars like mines with other subs and the space i have to work on.
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2861540
http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...es/subbox.html
but i really want to use that w7 i dont want to settle for less.
i dont mind if the enclosure comes out a little more how many layers of fiberglass should i use or should i use the 1 inch of mdf requires for the w7?
i rather the whole thing whas fiberglass.
another thing the required specs are Sealed Range: 1.00 - 1.375 cu. ft. is that with the sub in the enclosure or without the sub?

No offense, seriously, but you are kinda all over the place with this. I can't figure out what exactly you want. Do you want an enclosure that you can buy off the internet, do you want to build one? Do want to do whatever is necessary to have the W7? Does it need to be fiberglass? Are you trying to save trunck space? Do you care the size? have you seen The JL powerwedges? Gimme as much info as you can so I can help direct you the best way possible. I don't blame you for wanting the w7 Its a great, great sub.

. i want to build a fiberglass enclosure for my w7 as small as possible but want to meet the specs of the unit.i also want to know how many layers of fiberglass i sould use?

Yes as long as you dont mind building the enclosure out it will work fine. I would start with 7-10 layers of mat just to make sure the enclosure is solid. 7 layers with the compound angles for the rear should be fine but I would do at least 10 layers on the front baffle using 2 .75 mdf rings and some thick bracing to suspend the rings. When you do the initial mold of the trunk I would come out farther then you want the enclosure to extend into the trunk. Your enclosure needs to be at least 1.39ft3 (for recommended volume because you need to add the displacement of the woofer. after you have your mold done you can take t out of the car and pour in the measured liquid untill you have 1.39ft3 of liquid in the mold then using a straight edge you can draw a trim line pour out the liquid and trim it to size. this will get you in the ball park you need to be size wise. If you want to get technical you should also consider the displacement of the bracing and ring that will occupy interior space. hope I wasnt to confusing any questions just ask.
Aron
