Leopard and CFE - working fine

Just upgraded the Mac Mini (PPC) to Leopard during a lengthy drive home and am happy to report that CFE boots and runs without issue.

Now, how about some key bindings so I can control it with my Powermate?

Well I would hope so since 90% of the development was done on the Leopard pre-releases

When someone wants to fund me $80k - $100k a year, i'll be glad to devote myself to any features they want. Until then, I still need to find a job to pay the bills before I get back to CFE
Actually I am working on a coding test for a place i'm interviewing with, but when i'm done (hopefully tomorrow) I hope to focus myself on CFE a bit assuming nothing more critical presents itself.

And after using a Mac Pro and a MBP for so long, this old dual-800 G4 is painfully slow And OMG is it LOUD!!!!! But for being 6 at the end of Dec, it's still rocking along pretty damn well Too old to consider 10.5 though (I know it probably will still work, but it will be slow at best).

Well, I'm thinking that this mod may not be necessary. I'm going to set up my Powermate to switch Spaces with a long click. You can assign apps to spaces, so if I assign CFE to space 1 and RoadNav to space 2, then I can simply switch back and forth between them with the click of a button. Neat!

Hmmm. Have you actually tried that yet?

It's been awhile since I last ran the Production version (I normally worked with the Debug version) of CFE on my old MBP with Spaces, but I seem to recall that when CFE was running, if switched desktops it stayed visible. That was caused by CFE taking control of the display (it doesn't do this in Debug mode). That was back with the WWDC build though and I know they made changes and fixed bugs between it and the GM version so maybe it works different now.

Yes, I actually tried it. Erm...today. And you're right, CFE takes control of the display and you can activate Spaces.

What's the chance of changing that? :-)

Unless there is some hook to know when Spaces is activating, none.

You have to capture the display to hide the menu bar and Dock (if visible), but it also produces other unwanted side effects like this.

It would not surprise me if there is some NSNotification or some other hook to know when Spaces activates, but I won't be able to look into it until I have 10.5 again which isn't likely till January at the earliest. I did, however, just get Xcode 2.5 updated on my dual-8 so i'll start looking into those key bindings for you

Check your email and stop pestering me

Anyone else that has a Powermate (or some other keyboard emulation input device) that wants to test and give me feed back before I throw it up for the world, drop me an email and i'll forward the installer to you.

Someone asked about this on the cocoa-dev list today and the consensus at the moment appears to be that there is nothing 10.5 is still new though so it could be that it either hasn't been found yet or Apple will add the support later. Hopefully i'll remember to poke around when I finally get around to getting Leopard.
