Autostarting iTunes

What do you guys think about having iTunes start when your computer wakes from sleep (assuming iTunes was last playing when it went to sleep)?

Current Proposal:
  • autostart (user-controlled setting)
  • delay-on (possibly, user-definable)
  • volume limiter
  • will not autostart if CarFrontEnd is hidden

As I mentioned in our PM on the subject, I have gotten used to it being paused when you start the car which is why I never got around to adding this feature even though I initially planned to.

As long as it is timed as I described so that it won't start playing before the P1900/2140 delay turns everything else on, I can be happy with either way.

So come on everyone, we finally have someone else that is going to contribute code. Give him your feedback on the idea.

I was thinking more about this and, in addition to a delay, there should probably be some maximum volume at autostart to prevent the music coming on at 100% or something.

There are times where that could have saved my ear drums, but most of the time I leave the volume set where I normally listen to it. The radio that came with my wife's old F-150 used to do what you are talking about and it always used to drive me nuts that it would reset the volume when I started the car.

Just my $0.02, but I suppose if there is a Canadian in the audience their $0.02 is worth more than mine right now

An excellent addition! I was going to resurrect my Applescript to do this. It would be better to build it in.

I like the volume limiter. Don't think I would use the delay-on.

I like the idea(s). Maybe you could make iTunes fade in slowly as an option, so no maximum volume right from the start.

Well, I asked you to give them till Wed. You didn't get much comment, but they both appear for it so have at it.

Ping me if you run into any trouble or want to talk out your design before you get started otherwise let me know when you are done so I can review the changes before we pack it and ship it.

Thanks,
-dave

Yea, I was thinking about the lack of comment -- I suppose a lot of people now are just using the intel-based mini's and choosing to run a windows front-end.

There is no need to bring the Mac vs PC argument into a forum dedicated to a purely Mac front end -dave

I support this idea. Please implement it.

I like all of the ideas given above as well as bpwned's volume fading idea.

I have a Intel Mac Mini. I just want to run OS X because it's much cleaner. And it goes well with the theme of my next customizing job.

mustanglou,

What is the status on your changes? You've gotten everyone excited, but seem to have disappeared
