can't help you about the ex apps question, but to alter the buttons on the main screen, you can edit them under settings -> buttons (or something ).
there you can chose what button 1 does, button 2, ...
for the navigation question: take a look under settings -> nav. there you can disable destinator as nav program, and use another (there is a plugin for iguidance, maybe others too... check the CF website under downloads)

Yeah, thanks DJ, the manual touches on changing the name ,the problem is ,as far as i can see once you change the name of the button the list of what you can open with the button is set , doesnt appear to be an option for opening an external program,i looked at the manuals for adding the plugins but they seem to have their own installer built in cause when you assign them to a button the options for that plugin appear?.I have read somewhere about being able to run ext. programs but i dont think it explained how it was done. I guess one could always just min. centrafuse and start the prog. from the desktop, just doesnt look very O.E. thanks all.

simply hit the "+" sign in settings, this will display a dialog which allows you to create External Apps and WebLinks...

Once you create an External Application it will then be available as a button action, same with a WebLink
