CFSpeed Utility and Speed Camera Detection

I have written the attached utility for displaying Speed and Heading on the screen in front of Centrafuse or for that matter any program.

This is an interim measure (hopefully) until it is incorporated in Centrafuse.

It has not been written as a Plugin as for various reasons i am bound to programing using .NET 2. Therefore to use the utility you need to have installed .Net 2, XPort3 with a simulated Port 21 (not changeable at the moment) for use by the Utility and whatever port for Centrafuse.

Copy the dll file to the C:\windows folder and run the utility from wherever.

Right click on the Notification Icon in taskbar for options or left click on the speed or heading label on the screen.

I am also incorporating Speed Camera Notification into this as since using Centrafuse I got caught (My own fault) but this may be a week or so away.

i think there is some option to not make it scroll, but stick with 1 item...

Too small to read.

CFSpeed with Speed Camera Proximity Alert

Now includes basic speed camera alerts.

Speed Cameras are read from a csv file:
-sample attached that must be in the same folder
-sample includes data from Australia and UK
-must be same format as available for use with Map Monkey

Audio Alert comes from attached 'speed.wav' file

The utility works by visual alert within 500 metres and visual and audio alert within 300 metres.

Alert can be cancelled by clicking the visual alert but will repeat if still within range.

Distance to camera is calculated in a direct line to the camera and can not take into account the actual distance to travel to the camera.

Hi AUSMARK,

up to now I could only test the first version of your nice utility, unfortunately without success: I have installed and run it correctly, but when the GPS unit starts producing data, the visualized values become "crazy"; the speed value changes continuosly from values like 50-60-70 when the car is not moving and 7-8 salellites are fixed.
I have tested your utility in Italy.
Is there someting I can check?

Thanks for sharing your work.

Are you using Centrafuse at the same time and if so what is the speed reading showing on it? The code has been changed since the first version but I have not seen what you have describe happening on first version anyway - usually at rest it will hover between 0-3km/h

I have tested the second version too. The behaviour is the same with or without CF running. CF speed is ok, but the speed displayed by your tool is not stable (two digits random numbers) at rest... :-(

Anyone has this behaviour?

What about the Heading - does that display correctly?

I'm in the car testing V2 right now.

I'm getting the same fluctuating speed and direction as mentioned above.

I also keep getting the camera warning despite being nowhere near a camera.

Shame.

New Version

Not sure why the display would be showing erratically as described. Have tested on a number of computers with nothing like it occuring.

This version tidies up the error trapping and also has a log window showing raw data. To access right click the Notify Icon and Click Show Log and a window will open showing:
Line number (Reset after 40 Lines)
Timestamp
Validity - A - Good or V - Invalid
Speed - in Knots
Heading - Degrees
Latitude
Longitude

If there is no signal nothing will show in the box and the Speed and Heading will be shown as a "-"

i have only had 2 responses back from people in the Northern Hemisphere saying it is not working. Has anyone got it working up there?

Other Changes:
Error displayed if Port 21 has not been set up as a valid Port.
Camera.jpg - Display Picture for Speed Camera Alert.
