Exclamation problems 1.42

David,

Here is my feedback! first of all I love CF I have tried ST, RR and by far Cf is the most complete solution a real find. Now here are the problems I have:

1. I know you said you rewrote the audio engine. I have several problems with the audio. It stops responding from time to time, sound comes back garbel quite ofthen, sometime it does not sounf at all. this happen coming out of hibernation or if it plays for a long time. it also happens if buffer is on or off. but mostly on.

2. The system also freezes a lot more than it use to. seems slow.

3. If I have the sat buffered i get visuals, if its a pass through i get no visuals

4. The sound on sat pass through sound has no low end bass at all?

5. Phone only works for a few minutes?

6. Nav loses gps from time to time ( not often)

7. When using eq the sound thats buffered sounds bad (dont know how to explain it) not clear

8. why does the scroll at the top of the screen jerk when it moves(RR scrolls smooth)

my specs are:

intel celeron 1.3gig (plenty fast enough)
512 ram
80 gig harddrive
wifi
bluetooth
microsoft gps
7" lilliput touch screen

This is correct. The visual engine needs to work off of the buffer so that it can "look ahead" and figure out things like beats and frequency content.

Suggestions
  • Please have the installer remember where CF is installed (i.e., don't default to "c:\program files\...")

  • Please change the way scrolling works.
Right now you're generally running from the 1st character of the artist to last character of the track then jumping the display back to first and waiting on the timer. It's pretty annoying for long artist/track titles. There's no real time to absorb the end of the track name, 'specially if you're trying to write it down.

How about a banner-like scroll? So, start with the 1st char of artist, go to the last of the track, add {space}delimiter{space}, then start over with the artist, continuously scrolling all the text.

Niggles
  • The XM scroll line (top line of display) doesn't need the XM channel number and station name. With that in there, it's WAY too much text and tends to push the Artist name starting point off-screen.

Bugs
  • Installing 1.42 (upgrading from the 1.41 patch) overwrote my XM configuration and favorites list. Not a big deal, just mentioning it.

The install path needs a default, this is just for the Beta updates... The final 1.5 installer will detect the path and do an upgrade...

Also this is a simple extract installer and it does overwrite a few config files that I needed to include for changes... The final 1.5 update again will not overwrite any configurations or settings, this is just the Beta extractation updates...

I will look into updating the scrolling...

post the SatRadio suggestion in the SatRadio thread for me...

I have not had any of the audio engine issues and using pass through it is not even using the Centrafuse audio engine, that is the sound from your soundcard... The audio engine would only be used if you are playing an mp3 or using the buffer...

The freezing should be fixed in 1.43 which I hope to have out today... This was due to the visualizations...

You have to use the buffer to get visuals, otherwise you are just listening to your sound card input...

I have no control over passthrough, cannot modify anything... This is straight from your soundcard, this is the same as unmuting a line input and plugin in an audio source into the line in and listening to it Windows, it has nothing to do with Centrafuse...

Post your phone bug at phoco.net and give more details and include all the log txt files in the PhoneControl.NET sub directory, bluetooth dongle, bluetooth stack version, and phone model...

Not sure about the GPS, does it come back quickly?

The EQ issue with buffer mode has been fixed in 1.43, this was a bug...

Looking into the scroll issue, it only appears with SatRadio and is in my bug list...

Got some more fun...
  • The audio level drops dramatically (10db or more) when buffering SatRadio.

  • When I first installed 1.42, I SatRadio was fine. (XMDirect, COM1, Line in). I hibernated, then after resume, the SatRadio setup was set to XMPCR. This only happened the first time out of a sleep/hibernate cycle.

Yes, I'll post this on the SatRadio thread as well.

I got to say that I really like the way that the developer of this application keeps involved with the community, not something that you see very often.
