External Applications

My first post and I hope the Centrafuse community can help me with understanding the relationship between CF and external applications. I have read the manual and have tried searching but have been unable to find comprehensive FAQ on this subject.

Having downloaded a number of trials and by reading these posts I’m concluding that Centrafuse is probably the best frontend in terms of usability, but perhaps more importantly because it appears to have strong development team including support for 3rd party apps.

Before parting with my money however, I’d like to satisfy myself that Centrafuse it is suitably customizable.

For work and leisure I use a lot of different mapping products including google earth, tomtom and autoroute. Increasingly though, I find that I make use of topographical mapping applications such as Memory-Map and Garmin MapSource which allow the display of scanned maps, together with GPS tracks and waypoints.

I’m not a programmer and so doubt whether I have the skills to embed my favorite applications within Centrafuse. However many of the frontends that I’ve tried provide the facility to launch external applications. Is this possible with Centrafuse?

I apologize if this question has been raised before but I ask whether somebody could provide me with some pointers.

Go to Settings and hit the "+" sign and you will receive a new dialog... Choose external application and setup your external application...

You will need to provide the window name which shows up in the top title bar of the application, you can use partial names...

this will create a new external application and assign it to a button... You can use Button Actions to assign the new external application to any button on the screen...

Thank you. I hadn't realised what the + symbol was for.

What is the application parameter option?

it is the same as passing parameters when you launch an application, for example...

notepad.exe "c:\mytextfile.txt"

if you want to pass the second parameter you would put c:\mytextfile.txt in the application parameter field...
