Radio module Infill G4 and SILAB

I trying to test the radio with CF on my Infill G4 (CF ver 1.46)

In my first test I use the Infill G4 radio module. It’s working.

I bush SCAN. Then the SCAN is highlighted and the tuning starts, but there is a time delay for pushing Scan and the frek number starts counting, even that I can hear the tuning has started.

Another issue is, when using SCAN the bottom it stays highlighted. The radio stops at a frek with good signal, but then starts scanning again. You have to push the SCAN bottom to stop at the frek with good signal. And with the delay for bushing the SCAN bottom and the highlighting of the SCAN bottom is off you don’t know what it will do…

I believe the purpose of the SCAN is to stay Highlighted while scanning and when tuned to a station it’s automat stay there (highlight OFF) until you push SCAN again, ore it stops for a few sek, then starts again. But with the slow action…. You don’t know what station you are at.

If I use tune up or down, it’s highlighted while tuning, and stops at a station.

But still in general it’s slow. What I mean – when you push a bottom and what the radio module dos and what its display of frek is do not match….

Now I try to use my steering wheel control
(got it to work with the Infill G4 (for people interested in getting it to work, just ask, and I can make a small guide))
the command it send is the same if you use a keyboard.

I have a bottom for SCAN. When I bush it and the SCAN bottom in CF is highlighted is from 2 sek to 10. Actually I’m not quite sure in what it does, as it not easy to control the action. (Have tried this whit a keyboard a well)

When using tune up or down with steering wheel control/keyboard, it’s tuning and stop at a station when using the screen the bottoms is highlighted and highlight off when stops at a station. Why it’s different.

Is there an issue there with the RADIO module? As it is now, it’s not weary user friendly….

I tested this also with a SILAB radio, it’s the same. But then it’s suddenly gets stuck and if I use hibernation – no good. But think it’s described elsewhere….

Finally.
I like to use my steering control (5 bottoms) for more than 5 functions. I.e. tuning up and next track, tuning down and previous track…. But this is not possible as far as I can see/do. You can only have one command for each action! Not multiplied…

Is it possible to make multiplied actions – I.e. only when you are in the action – when in radio you use a key stroke/action for tuning, and when you go to media you can use the same key stroke/action for next track?

A keyboard is not easy to fit on the steering wheel, and the police doesn’t thing it’s funny…

Hey there,

I also have an Infill G4 and am testing CF 1.46 before I commit to purchase. I have found that the radio problems you describe above are exactly the same for me. With the added problem of after selecting 'scan' and it stops at a station and you deselect the scan button, the frequency sometimes (not always) starts scanning backwards. It cycles through the Freq range continuously backwards. The only way to stop this is to re start CF again.

On the other topic of having multiple actions for the same buttons (i.e. whilst having the radio module open the hotkeys will only work for radio presets etc, and whilst in the Media module the same hotkeys will only select next track etc) this would be a much sought after ability and one I haven’t had a chance to experiment with. Hopefully this function exists somewhere.

Also, can you describe how you got the steering wheel controls to work in the Infill G4? I have a Can Bus system which I don’t think that compatible.

Cheers

James

I will look into a few of these... The SCAN is not supposed to stop like you described, but work like it does... It might need to be delayed longer... Stopping at the next good station like you describe is not scan, but seeking which should also be working...

So I will do the following...

1. push scan and there is a delay before scanning starts
2. not enough delay when scan stops on a good station, make it longer and more responsive
3. test scan hotkey to ensure it works properly

Hey Dave
I don’t know if you have tried the Infill G4 Radio.

But my description was a little misleading

This is how the Infill G4 radio works.
If you push scan. The radio scans to a station with good reception – stops for 5 seconds and store it from 1 to 10. When finish scanning it goes to stored station 1 for 5 seconds. If you push scan one more time you will stay there, if not it goes to stored station 2 and so on

If you push tune up/down the radio tunes to the next station, and stay there.
I like the working principal for the Infill G4 radio much, and hope the radio plugin for CF will work the same way.

But one of the most confusing issues whit the CFinfill/CF1.46 version for the Infill G4 radio, is that if you push SCAN ore tune the bottom stays highlighted until you push again?? And the response time from when you push a bottom and something happens together what you can hear of sound is almost three different thing.

But if you know which radio frequency you want to hear, just push in the number of the frequency and it work like a charm. Just don’t drive to far so you have to use scan

I have an Infill here... I don't understand, the scan works for me like a car stereo...

what do you mean by stored station 1-10? When I hit scan it scans to the closest good station, stops for 5 seconds, and then scans to the next station and goes until it loops the entire band... If you hear something you like within that 5 seconds, you hit it again to stop... this is how the scan works...

I am looking into making it more responsive which I agree with, but the functionality I don't understand the issue...

I just turned the Infill back on and notice that the scan does not properly stop like with the HQCT, Silabs, ADS, RadioXtreme, etc...

I will take a look into why this is happening... It's like the unit is not getting the command to stop the Scan, it's not in application...

I just improved the scan on the Infill... I did find an issue with the HQCT as well and do not have the methods to fix it... With some of the radio devices you start a Seek and it does not stop on the radio unit itself until it locks onto a station, so even if you hit to stop the scan in Centrafuse the radio does not have calls to tell the seek or scan to stop...

I did have the ability to fix it with the Infill though...

What I mean with station 1 to 10. Is when you start scans it stores the 10 first stations with good reception in your channel list 1 to 10. U can choose to start from your present frequency ore for the beginning of the frequency band in your radio options.

I made this to illustrate what I mean:

Radio scan Infill G4
You need to upgrade your Flash Player

Also you have 4 options in radio setup
1. Mute while auto scan/seek
2. Initialize memory while scanning (don’t quite understand what that means)
3. Start from current channel when channel scanning
4. Indicate scanning channel every 3 seconds until scanning is stopped. (This means either it stop at the channel for 3 seconds and store it at your present 1 to 10 ore it just store the channel without any stop until it have stored the 10 first channels)

Those options will be great to have. But I know that first job you have is just to get the radio moduls to work properly.

Great you found an issue, can’t wait to test it – great job Dave
