Question CPU Usage 100% with CF

Hi.

I have CF installed on a 800mhz/512mb/5400rpm laptop hdd/ car pc running a tweaked xp with 18 processes running.

Only CF is running and it maxes to 100% with 46% ram available. Is this normal? It seems like the program lags when going though menus and whatnot.

Also, when I go full screen with visualizations it gets really choppy but yet I can play music videos just fine. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Travis

Which version is this? What modules do you have active?

Also, can you define "Tweaked"? CF doesn't like much of anything stripped out of XP.

I'm running 1.47

Not sure what you mean by modules. I have not really touched anything besides the resolution 800x480. I go straight to media.

I really shouldn't say tweaked all that much i guess. Just a bunch of services turned off that were unneccesary. I followed some guides on the forums here.

I've the same problem too..

furthermore I've noticed this usage:

about 15%-20% while playing FM radio
about 30%-40% while playing mp3 without visual effect
about 90% while playing mp3 using the 1st visual effect

100% while playing video clips... and sometime the application doesn't respond, so it's impossible for me playing video clips with CF. Otherwise when I playing video clips with windows media player the CPU usage is below 80% (it depend of how the file is encoded).

I would like to know what kind of playier it's used in CF appllication and if it is possible optimize the player in order to reduce the CPU Usage.

bye,
pijo.

I've seen this happen. I think that the culprit might be the PhoneCo software within CF. Have both of you activated or have tried to activate and failed with the Phoco software within CF?

I've never even hit the Phone button yet in CF or set up anything. I'm not using Bluetooth at all.

You just answered about PhoneCo, but "modules" would be anything in CF.. Email, Sat, Nav, Radio,Web, Weather... Are you using WiFi or any Bluetooth devices?

On the _CF_ forums or other forums here on MP3Car? I ask 'cause CF has different tolerances for this compared to RoadRunner or mobile computing "in general".

Are you on 1.47 as well? There have been issues in the past with the effects, but 1.47 cleared them for me.

CF is acting as a frontend to the stock WMP libraries. "Some" additional CPU overhead could be expected for CF doing it's own stuff in the background (like managing a network connection or a bluetooth device) but it "shouldn't" be pegging the CPU.

Which Media Player are you running? 9, 10 or 11?

I hadn't used anything else but Media. I have no bluetooth/wifi/nav/xm/am-fm, nothing. I tried to isolate the problem so I made sure nothing else was running.

That sounds like normal CPU usage with an 800Mhz processor and Windows XP in the background of CF.

Anything you can suggest to make it run better?

how does your system respond when using Navigation, does it lag while refreshing your GPS position?

I'm not using Nav now, but when I was, it was kind of slow. Seemed to be behind a few blocks. Wouldn't pause my music or anything playing though.

There is no way that it's the processor. I was using a 1.5GHz processor and had the same thing happened.

The Nav was slow to launch and the music even began to skip. I suggest that you check your HD to make sure it's fine. Also check the logs to see if you have any HD errors.

jc I had those issues with my current processor and an onboard GPU. It went away after adding a PCI-E video card with 256MB of DDR2 graphics memory.

Right, I agree..

I would recommend installing this and taking a look at what's going on:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx

Using it on a 7" LCD panel is "interesting" at best, so hopefully you can rig a full size display onto your car PC.
