Question Newb CF ?

I've tried searching for this, but everything I've tried brings up 0 results. Doesn't make any sence, because I've tried very generic tearms, but ohh well... Onto the actual question.

What I'm wondering is, is there a way to use CF to play pre existing videos, like DVD rips? I want to go as completely discless as possible, because discs+my truck=scratched and/or broken

Presumably you mean .avi files?
Just make sure you have the correct codecs installed and the video folder(s) set up in Settings.

When you choose media they'll be listed there under video folders.

Yup. What he said.

While I can play DVD's through my CarPC, I keep several DVD rips (as .AVI files) stored on the HD. I also have a folder for music videos.

Thank you for the replies. And yes, I'm talking .avi's. However, by the correct codecs, do you specifically mean divx and ac3 codecs? Because I use VLC pretty much exclusively. I thought I remember reading a thread where someone said that CF will use VLC, but every time I try opening an avi it never does anything.

When I play .avi files in CF a new process starts called DivXsm.exe.

So I assume therefore that you need to load the DivX codecs.

I've found that Media Player Classic is good to have installed.
