Phone echo

When using the phone in CF people calling me say that there voice echoes when talking to me some times it is ok and others they say it's so bad that they can't talk to me.

Echo is a known issue on all the BT solutions coming out. The only two solutions I am aware of are a software Half Duplex mode, where the mic automatically mutes when the person on the other end of the call is talking (this is how most OEM car kits work) or a PCI card like the Phoenix SOHO which cancels echo in Full Duplex mode.

I can't use PCI cards I use the Turtle Beach USB card.

you can use a hardware echo cancelling microphone, this can solve the issue...

We are also looking into software echo cancellation integrated into Centrafuse directly...

Do you have any examples of such mics? This is the reason why i have never been able to use cf phone feature. There must be a way to do it from the software side as messenger and skype dont have this problem.

Any echo-canceling microphones I've seen are north of $300. Don't think that's a valid option.

I get a pretty bad echo on my setup. I have a logitech USB noise cancelling mic installed at the top end of my driver's side A-Pillar. It sound great, even with the window open, but the echo on the other end of the convo is horrible. I can't really turn the speakers down because I would not be able to hear the convo. Can we incorporate a software cancelation in the Centrafuse 2.0 phone software? I know its new and has bugs so I am not complaining. Can this be done effectively though? (not too much cpu stress)

Currently I cannot use the phone software as the pc lags and/or freezes after some use.

What are the most common ways of echo cancelation?

Remember that echo-canceling and noise-canceling are two completely different and independent technologies. Noise-canceling is much easier (and cheaper) to achieve. In fact, most so-called "echo canceling" mics are very expensive and geared toward businesses who use conference calling. Even if the money were spent on one of these mics, I'm not sure it would operate as desired in a car pc environment.

As far as I've seen, the only two solutions available are a half-duplex mode built into the phone solution (software solution) or an additional card like the Phoenix SOHO card (hardware solution), which requires that you have an available PCI slot.

The Phoenix Solo looks pretty cool... not sure how large it is though. No reviews that I can find online either. If it does what it's supposed to and isn't as large as it looks in teh picture, I may pick one up. A microphone with no noise/echo cancelation/good range (will be mounted behind my dash cluster) is crucial for my Carputer setup.

Ahh, interesting find Habious. I too wonder how big this thing is. Also wondering out good the noise cancellation is... cleary it wasn't designed with ROAD noise in mind

Spoke too soon... I just read some more on it. For the echo cancellation to work you have to be using the unit as both your mic AND your speaker. No good for us car pc folks.
