Subaru SSM - Working!...almost

To those interested in getting CF working with Subaru SSM, I've posted a thread on the fluxmedia forums with a rundown of how I embeded and configured a small program into CF until a plugin can be created. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it does get us showing some SSM data for now.

nice work...

the new 2.0 SDK will be ready very soon, and it includes graphics files, and examples in C#, VB.NET, C++, and Delphi... Delphi might come in a later release, but the other 3 languages for sure...

they are commented and easy to understand examples that will help developers create plugins and understand the SDK easier...

Excellent.

That SSM program is written in .net which should make it easier. That's the theory at least.

- The program is called Tree Hugger /Lumberjack.
http://www.codeplex.com/ssm/Thread/List.aspx
- Actually the window should be called Tree Hugger; mainform is only used when the COM port is set to "Mock". Mine uses COM3 port (COM5 is for GPS)
- It is best used with a Tactrix Cable. Different world areas use different tuning, here in North America we also have Cobb Tuning which sells you a programmer and an OBD-2 cable. My CarPC did not work with the Cobb Cable; my laptop did. I ended up buying a Tactrix Cable.
http://www.tactrix.com/
- The Tactrix Cable does work with turbocharged Subarus and Mitsubishi EVOs.

I display
Boost;
AFR for my "lean burn" periods when I stray a wee from 14.7;
Knock Correction (if consistently negative then is very) bad)
Coolant Temperature (Subarus do not have oil temp sensor: FAIL !!! ;
Mass Air Flow Sensor (On Subarus, the grams/second reading from MAF happens to have an almost 1:1 ratio with the wheel horsepower (add 20% for crank horsepower) and I am pro-tuned, so I know my true BHP and WHP and my numbers are close. Other people use Engine Load (g/rev) but that is a funny number.
% Throttle

- The parameters are selectable; just tedious work in figuring which one you have to select.
- Awesome program, but I would improve the parameter selection and the contrast for the parameter name display.
- There is absolutely ZERO need of a plugin. This thing embeds swiftly and works flawlessly.

Mmm that interesting, because my treehugger window name is mainform even with the comport selected...
I ended up using the cable from Evoscan (it's still the Openport 1.3 cable though), so exactly the same as Tactrix, except it was cheaper with cheaper shipping (having come from New Zealand rather than the US).

After using Treehugger for a while, I agree that there really is no need for a plugin, however it does need some work on parameter selection and the display like you mentioned. I'd like to add Min and Max displays for each paramter in the same manner as RomRaider too.

looks good. I'm very annoyed this doesn't work with my ELM327 device. I really don't want to spend $170 for a tactrix cable

tactrix 1,1 is just 100 dollars

I would not mind a shift light. One for say upshift and one for downshift, since the program can display what gear you are in.

What precisely is your problem with the program ?

I haven't found anywhere that's selling that cable. Or one that has it in stock.

As for the problem (if you are talking to me), it doesn't connect to my ECU. It errors out when I attempt to connect. Apparently ELM327 doesn't support SSM.

Yeah, what they did was ditch OpenPOrt 1.3 or whatever it was and upgraded to version 2.0 which is more expensive but it is not what we really need - it simply is too much - (data logging to a microcard for instance)

yeah... gay...

now I have to find a 1.3 tactrix cable -- cause i don't want to spend that much on the 2.0, and it's not even out yet.

if i ever get one, i want to develop a better looking Centrafuse plugin, similar to lumberjack.

Dude, the Tactrix 1.3 has been out for days...

Anyways, integration of the info the cable provides has been missing. ****, I posted source of the Windows Mobile interface to the Tactrix over a year ago on Evom.net, but nobody moves on it. I don't have time to bother.

The real issue is these guys that have been doing ECU dissasembly for years (Bez and jcs and Hamish ;-) These guys are closing in on making the Tactrix cable a real time tuning tool. Just look at the latest Evoscan

You can buy a Tactrix cable right now, I believe. Search Evolutionm.net's Evoscan forum...
