Question Can your software use an offline copy CDDB or FreeDB when ripping CDs?

Can your software use an offline copy of CDDB or FreeDB when ripping CDs? If it can where do I store the database?

It already does essentially... When you are connected to the internet and you rip or insert a cd, it will find the CDDB entry and store it locally... Then any other time you put that cd in, it first queries the local DB In the system folder, "main.dat", and retrieves your info. This is just an access file with a FreeDB database in it. You can get your carputer on the internet and insert all your cd's one time, therefore having all there data stored locally. You can also try to download the entire freedb database and import it into my access file. Not exactly sure what format they use, but I store all the data you retrieve from them so it should be compatible.... Its a HUGE file to download, but should work...

importing into your database sounds like a good idea. The DB is less than 500Mb so it's that small.

I tried doing this for CDex...but it didn't work. Never figured out why (though I tried), so I just deleted it. Not a bad idea, though. I think I'll try to figure it out again sometime in the near future.

someone try and import the data into my "main.dat" file inside your CENTRAFUSE system folder. Just open with Access. Let me know if I need to modify the DB format to simplify the import process...

I am pretty sure the file is 500MB compressed, but a lot larger when uncompressed into text... It would probably shrink back up once imported into the DB. If anyone gets it all imported please post a link to your CENTRAFUSE main.dat file so I can include this with my app...

having it included is a nice thought but maybe you could make it an EXTRA download. i know its lame but im still on dial up, and im likeing you front end and would love to keep pulling the updates but 500MB is just to much.

please make it an optional download

i was gonna say to include a tool that allowed you to import the db yourself

anyone had time to look at the format of it and try to figure it out?

Draxin: I wouldn't ever make people download 500 mb's ... If anyone gets it to work, I would just put a link to a replacement main.dat file.

It didn't take me long to get all my CD's in my local DB. All I had to do was listen to each CD once, and my program stores it automatically. I sat in my driveway on my wifi and inserted like 20 cd's here and there, and eventually got all my CD's in my local DB, now I get CDDB without an internet connection to all the CD's I listen to the most, mine... Every once in a while someone wants me to listen to one of their CD's... So I usually listen to it, without CDDB, and if I like it.... I connect to the internet with my bluetooth phone, go into utilities, and Rip the CD using CDDB... Then I have the mp3's named properly on my machine, and that CD's CDDB info stored locally...
