UPDATE:

I fixed it. Centrafuse requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6 or greater.

I found out by trying to rip a CD and then see if it read the ID3 tags from that. Ripping caused it to crash with an MDAC error.

You can download MDAC v2.8 here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I also installed the .NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, prior to updating the MDAC layer, but I don't think that was necessary. It's available through Windows Update or from Microsoft's web page as a 10MB download.

serendipity: What version of windows did you have installed? I just did a fresh install of WinXP SP2, windows update, .NET 1.1, managed directx and CENTRAFUSE ran fine... imported the ID3's perfect... I didn't have to install MDAC, unless it was on the windows update list?

Isn't MDAC 2.6 or higher included with XP SP2? What versions of windows you running? I want to add this to my requirements, but I think its only if you aren't running XP SP2...

What he said. I'm using Win2k with service pack 4. It includes version 2.5.3.<something or other>, which I discovered as part of that error message that popped up when trying to rip a CD.

Hey, thank YOU! Especially now that it can read my ID3s, the program is just awesome. The interface is fantastic.

Now if only it could read "ID3"-type info from my itunes .m4a files... I'll just convert them all to MP3 for use in the car in the meantime.

And keep up the great work

Hi David,

Many of my mp3-files are tagged with other genres than you have in your genres.dat file, so the majority ends up in the genre "Other". If I add my missing genres to the genres.dat file, will they show up correctly then?

Also, the mp3-tag reader doesn't like characters like ö (Mötorhead, Björk, Queensrÿche, Röyksop, etc.) I guess it don't like characters like æ ø å ä ö... It also seems to have problems with / in songnames (not filenames). AC/DC -> AC. Is there a way to fix this ourselves or...?
