I am trying to re-produce this, but I can't... I can enter invalid directories and invalid current.mpl playlists and CENTRAFUSE will always start and say either unable to play file or invalid directory when in music manager. Can you explain how you got it to give you a debug message?
In another thread you posted about adding to the genres.dat file. This is fine, but you will just need to re-scan your mp3's after you add genres to the file. I am also looking into the invalid characters you reported...

this happens to me if I'm using my removable HDD when playing songs. If I happen to take it off the machine and CF is looking for the physical location, the application crashes on me and won't startup until I put the hard drive enclosure back in; thus having the old directory in place again.
Might not be quite the same situation, but the error message is similar.

Does the error happen when you startup CENTRAFUSE? If not, when does the error occur? Is the situation basically you have a playlist playing from files on your external HD, you exit CENTRAFUSE, unplug the external HD, and re-load CENTRAFUSE, or are you unpluggin the HD while the music is playing?

Yup, it happens when CENTRAFUSE tries to startup and it can't find the physical location.
I've never unplugged the HD when CF is running so, unfortunately, I can't tell you about that either way.
There are also weird behaviors that happen to the filesystem when using centrafuse with an external HD as well, but they're probably things that users shouldn't do anyways. If you'd like me to elaborate, please let me know.

silencery: Elaborate... I had many weird problems when I use to use an external usb HD also... When I was using MediaCar and Frodoplayer before I wrote CENTRAFUSE... The problem I use to have was the filesystem getting corrupted and files not showing up on my desktop in the house and vice versa... My problem ended up being an XP issue... If you just unplug your external HD, without using the "Safely remove hardware" it messes up the file system... Especially if you hibernate windows, unplug your USB HD after it is powered off, plug it into a different computer and copy new files to it, and then plug it back into your hibernated PC and boot up... This totally screwed my file system up on the external HD, but only sometimes... According to MS you are suppose to use the "Safely remove hardware" when mounting an external FS, especially one that isn't read-only which can change...

Actually, now that you mention it, my problems w/ the external device are most likely the same as the ones you describe.
What happens to me is file corruption when I copy new files onto the HD from my house or laptop. I've had bad experiences before w/ not 'safely removing' the device, so I always make sure to do so. BUT, When I remount the drive in my car (from a fresh boot), the files become corrupted upon access for some reason. The corruption seems to be random, and I haven't quite been able to pinpoint what's causing it.
I thought it might have had something to do w/ the way centrafuse cached FS indices or contents or something, but that clearly doesn't seem to be the case.
BTW, this occurs w/ firewire and USB enclosures for me.

silencery: Yep... Sounds like the same problems I had... My problems pretty much went away when I started to Safely unmount, but right around that time I stopped using an external drive so I didn't thoroughly test... I think its more related to XP and external drive enclosures... It's like the TOC for the files gets screwed up on the drive when you start copying to/from it from different machines...
As for the invalid music directory error... Everytime I do this, CENTRAFUSE still launches and just says UNABLE TO PLAY FILE... Anyway you can re-create this error and give me all the debug information under details so I can track this unhandled exception down?
thanks,
david

huh,
well this is embarrasing. Apparently, I can't recreate the problem! haha. It happens all the time when you don't want it to, and now when you need it, it goes away.
Oh well, I'll be sure to send you a log if/when it pops up again. I'll try it on my car later as well as my desktop.
Thanks for all the help!
