auto time alignment in centrafuse

Hey David,

any chance of working in an automatic time alignment program? basically something that will allow you to place a mic in the car and have each speaker adjust itself to optimize the sound at that point in the car?

yeah...tall order, but maybe i can get the ball rolling on a discussion about this. hopefully there is already a program out there that would do this.

Are you getting at a speed (road noise) based type volume adjustment?

Im lucky to have my system have a stock speed controlled volume setting

Destinator provides a realtime speed via the GPS information, so there's no reason to think that a speed controlled volume feature couldn't be added to Centrafuse. It may have already been thought of for version 1.3?!? I don't think this is what scott_fx was asking about though...

As far as automatic time alignment goes, I'm sure this is possible.

yea but, it's really a 30mins job with the right plugins and the right board, I don't think it could be done the easy way with a generic soundcard

Mic quality and position will play a big roll in this, not to mention one hell of an algorithm, proper test tones, etc. Even once you did calculate the proper adjustment values, can you really delay the sound stream that the sound card is outputting on a channel-by-channel basis? All in all, it's lot of work.

If you wan't such advanced sound-adjustment features, I really suggest you buy a quality after market head-unit with line in and line out. I do love my Pioneer P1R's Auto-EQ (which does exactly what you are talking about). Since the screen is in the frount dash, I have the Pioneer mounted on top of my sub-box in my hatchback (facing forward just over the rear seats, in between the rear headrests). That way I can see it in my rear-view mirror and I can control it with its remote. I made a nice box around it so you can't even tell it's there from outside the car unless you bend down and look directly back through the front windshield.

yeah, i had a p1r back in the day and it is the exact feature i want! i dont think the quality of mic plays a role becuase it's just time adjustment. i.e. send pulse, time how long it takes for the mic to 'hear' it, adjust.

i won't put a h/u in my car and i'd rather not buy a $400 dsp module from pioneer

frankino, the plugin you hacked does a great job. I'm 100% happy with my set up now EXCEPT for how long it takes to load the kx driver but i think i can live with that.

thanks for the advice/plug-in. although auto time delay would be usefull/easier if someone had thier tweeters and mids on seperate amps or if they had front and rear speakers.
