Alphanumeric LCD support

David, are you going to implement alphanumeric LCDs support in next versions of CF? I mean those displays based on HD44780 controller.
In CF 1.2 there are settings for number of rows and columns, but i don't think it is working yet... otherwise more data would be needed (like Parallel port used).

You're doing a great work with this front-end any way!
It is very functional, simple and stable.

With 1.3 improvements, in particoular external apps support it will be even better

that is already included in 1.2... I did leave out the port to use, but it works great on LPT1... I will make the port configurable in 1.3... There is a lcd.xml file in the system folder where you can modify exactly what is outputed to the display...

I tried the same LCD with LCDSmartie, jaLCD and another one i can't remember: it worked.
Maybe you're using a particular wiring? Or maybe in WinXP i need to use Userport.exe to allow direct I/O?

Well, thank you for the aswer, I'll try to figure out where the problem is when I'll have some time.

All HD44780 LCD's should work... All the ones I have tried did... Make sure LCD is enabled in setup, the proper number of rows and columns are set, it's plugged into LPT1, and your printer port is set for ECP... There is a lcd.xml file in system that can be used to modify the output and also to change the timings.. These timings can be used to speed up or slow down the port access for compatibility with different controllers.. You do not need to install userport... All that is needed to directly access to the parallel port is included by using the inpout32.dll... I use to use userport, but their object crashes coming out of hibernation...

CF 1.2 does work with a parallel LCD, I forget which one I have, but it -does- work... I'm using LCD Smartie with it though just so I can have the 'SmartFan' plugin and get voltage/temp readings on the LCD
