edit: heres the post where you mentioned integrated dvd and video in one section)

it's an opinion thing... I had loads of requests to integrate video/music into one section, which is how it's now done, and many people happy with it... The setup is much easier to use with one manager to choose your music or videos... Then with autoplay you can simply insert a DVD, while in the media section, and DVD will overlay ontop... So you essentially never have to leave the one media section, which is the way I like it... You also now have the ability to create video playlists, which you never had before... you can also have a playlist that has music and videos in the same playlist, which is a feature I use daily to load up an artists music and music videos... You only have to learn one manager... there are way more positives IMHO... what exactly do you consider sloppy about the video managment? You can do everything you could before plus much much more and from one location instead of the 4 sections you had to use before...

David: I love the current setup for music videos. I was one of the many that requested a merge of music videos with the music. However, I would like to have a seperate library of TV shows and Movies that is seperate from music (and should probably be mixed with DVD). Can you see the need for both?

Furthermore, and I will warn you this is a big request... it would be nice to be able to make multiple librarys for different things and then shell execute them (like a view for NES games that launches the NES emulator) instead of having to embed external media-browsers. Have you ever used Meedio? This is what I am thinking of.

sorry, I meant crappy :P
I see video section not for music video playback but for TV shows or divx or fun videos, nothing related to music at all. I was thinking this way. By the way I get some errors loading a whole video directory, CF freezes often loading the preview and it seems slow loading my videos; and I have problems with sound, I have to press FF to hear video sound.
I liked 1.2 way because I like to keep music and vids separated, that's all. Maybe you can have both, including video support also into dvd section or maybe changing dvd section in something like Movie section. this is my idea, obviusly if I'm the only one thinking this way I'll manage

David,

I think RPM hit the nail on the head here. IMO, you should have the media tab include everything it does now. Have the DVD tab renamed to VIDEO and have Video capability. In setup you would control which video directory gets placed in which section. Any directory you choose to be listed under the VIDEOS tab will be removed from MEDIA by default. That's what I feel would work best. This would satisfy both opinions on how the system should work.

What do you think?

Scott

P.S. Another posibility I can think of would be to leave it how you have it now with a 3 way toggle button in the MEDIA section. (MUSIC --> VIDEOS --> ALL MEDIA)

Well, let's not call it "Video" since that is closest to Music Video which still belongs in the Media section.

I would like the following 3 top-level seperate sections:
Music (like media is now: Music files and Music Video files)
Movies (DVD and files [DiVX/X-Vid/etc.])
TV (I have SnapStream beyond TV as well as many downloaded TV series that I would like kept seperate from Movies as well as from Music)

If I had a radio or a TV tuner I would want those embedded apps accessible under Music and TV respectivly as well, but I don't.

Bottom line, music videos are cool to have mixed with music files. On the other hand, I don't want Gone and Sixty Seconds to come up when I load all artists in media mode. IMO, videos other than music videos do not belong with a collection of mp3 audio.

Does it even do this? I would like it to do this with my Music Videos, but I have never seen a video in my now playing list when I load artists... I can only play them by loading videos. Therefore, it is still not really mixing Music Videos with my MP3's unless I go through multiple steps to load artists and then add Videos to the "playlist". I really never want to create playlists or have to "load" anything, I just want to be able to skip around in a full collection of all my MP3s and Music Videos. This is why I suggested being able to "sort" the now playing list on page 3 of the requests thread.

For Movies I would like to be able to view them by Title, Genre, Actor, Director, or Decade just like I can do in Meedio.

I would also like to be able to view Video Games with CoverArt and then have CF ShellExecuteEX the file so it will run in my NES/SNES/N64 emulator (just like I can in Meedio).

no videos are mixed in with audio... they are clearly seperated... the only way to get to videos is being at the "root" of the library and going into "Videos"...

Video section debate

Perhaps you could just make a extra "Button action", which people could attach to the main-screen buttons, that would also open "Music/Manager" and go directly to the video section. Then everyone would be happy

This is not a good thing. When I am browsing Artists, I want to see everything by that artist be it an MP3 or a Music Video (can you even "tag" video's with album/artist/genre? If so, I want it mixed.).

Ok, well what about a database importer (like you do in Meedio to get directors, actors, genres, etc.).
