I was one of the more outspoken critics of the sound quality of CF 1.5. I have now spent some time with 1.6 and think the sound quality has significantly improved. In fact, I have compared the sound quality of 1.6 to Winamp in unenhanced form and found them to be virtually identical.
I've come to the conclusion that I've been spoiled by the little (105kb) "Enhancer" plugin that I've been using with Winamp. It substantially brightens the playback of mp3s (and satellite radio when run through the Winamp line-in plug). I'm wondering if it's possible to incorporate something similar in CF. Perhaps its use could be included as an option in setup.
David, I'm now sold on CF because of the features, ease of use and stability, but do you think it would be possible to develop some sort of DSP enhancement and include it as an option? I can send you a copy of the Winamp enhancer plug in and maybe you can see how that was done. (I'm aware that you've already got your hands full with bug fixes, but I thought I would at least put the question on the table.)
Sound quality is definetely pretty damn good. A collection of mp3's I have actually play in this version and no longer skip (as they did in 1.5). Good job
