Because Centrafuse is going to be a commercial release. David doesn't want old copies floating around after it goes commercial because then people wouldn't need to buy it to use it. Most Beta programs have experations.
Unfortunately, his release schedule isn't exactly what he planned, and stuff like 1.6 happens that keeps people like me back on 1.4.

I will have 1.7 out soon and it will have most all reported bugs/enhancments fixed...
I already fixed the embed issue that was causing the major issue with embedding GPS software...
I have 28 small/medium bugs left on my list...

Thanks for the update David.
Any chance of a 10 day license or something for 1.4 so we can all drive with CF in the meantime, instead of Winblows? I'm not affected YET, but as soon as I restart the fun is over.

Thank god for hibernate and not closing CF.
Something in the background is beeping at me once in a while though, but I'm afraid to close CF and find out what and have to upgrade.

I will try to restore my old 1.4 license file tonight from backup and see about posting a new temporary license....
I would have simply posted one, but have recently backed up everything pre 1.5, so it's not on my machine...

David: If you have a copy of the 1.4 release source, why don't you consider releasing an un-licenced version? 1.4 was a fairly stable release of an excellent car-pc software that is really quite different than 1.6 and beyond. I don't think you would really be hurting yourself in the long run. Even once 2.0 is for sale, some people that only use free software and try a copy of 1.4 may be convinced to install your 2.0 trial and end up purchasing it.
Alternatively, maybe you could sell a permanent licence to 1.4 for like $20 or something and have that purchase cost go toward 2.0 once it is final. This way you could start collecting a little money now, and you have provided a method for people to use 1.4 if they like (as I'm sure there will always be a small group that prefer 1.4 over 2.0, and it sucks those guys are just SOL).
(Personally, I'm fine with 1.6 until 1.7 comes out.)

I'm also frustrated with the licensing stuff, I understand the need for it, but I'm worried about installing this full time in my car to have to get a new license every couple of weeks. Maybe it has been posted elsewhere, but I'm curious as to when this whole license thing will be resolved and how much the software is going to set us back.. I just don't want to put anymore energy into a software that I'm afraid I will end up saying the hell with.

i like the idea of a $20 license for 1.4 that goes towards your 2.0 purchase if you decide to go that route. Is there an estimated cost for the 2.0 full license?
