Im ****ed!

tonight, I decided to try out centrafuse. I installed the .net silliness and the latest version of centrafuse.

I attempted pointed centrafuse my correct music path, attempted to update the library, and it only imported 22 songs. WTF? I try it again and it imprts 54. I could not understand why it imported so few songs... at one point it gave me the error "unable to remove entire library"

Then I checked the drive where my MP3's live, and noticed that my 25 gig collection was reduced to a few hundred megs, and some folder trees were duplicated 30 subfolders deep, there were numerous new folders with gibberish names, and one that was named "volume information".

.NET and Centrafuse are the only things I installed after a clean boot... Im upset because I did not request centrafuse to delete anything...

as a programmer... i dont see how that could have really happened, there would atleast have to be some type of file deletion function in the codebase... I havnt seen anything that deletes files through centrafuse in the GUI...

Are you sure you didnt get a virus or something somehow?

Hope you made a backup =/

Import funtion under tools is to copy from one location to another... If you want to simply read your music paths then click Rebuild...

Import is to import a folder from a network drive, usb drive, etc... to a local folder and auto import into the library...

I believe that if you click the minus ( "-" ) button in the media manager, you WILL DELETE the actual file(s) rom your hard drive. This is how it works on 1.4 I kno for sure. Not entirely sure about how it works on 1.6

David, can you comment? I've always felt that deleting files from the GUI was a bad idea.

You should blame Microsoft. I tried centrafuse many times and never had a problem, even with over 100Gb of MP3s...

Same here; I've never had any problems with file deletion.

Yes it will delete the file... I changed the wording of the dialog to make sure the user knows that the file will be permanently deleted...

This is neccesary since the obvious idea is to have Centrafuse 100% replace the OS (aka shell)... You will need the ability to remove files from your computer...

Most people don't have their main music collection stored on their car computer, but in their house... We have plans for a PC based application that will connect to your car and allow you to sync and update/change the music that is in your car...

that file syning would be great built in. I'm (kindof) using EZsync, but I had some issues with it embedding correctly,

I probably did click the - button at some point. If that did delete the files then it sure was not obvious.

That drive is now full of garbage folders with weird names, and it is a seprate Logical Drive than windows and centrafuse.

All I know is I installed and ran Centrafuse, and now most of my music is gone.

Since no one else had problems, and this seems to be a really great piece of software, I'll sync up my music again and give it another try... but for right now, 12 songs and frodoplayer is all Ive got.

It wouldn't have ever, or shouldn't unless it's a weird bug you found that no one else has yet, deleted or renamed/moved file without explicity displaying a dialog warning you....

During installation it goes to setup, you set your music path, then it should ask if you want to import your music into the library... Once you hit yes it should just start reading automatically and work...

Check your error.log file in the main Centrafuse folder and either email it to support or post anything relevant you see...

David: I do not know if this is already possible with skinning, but I would like a "delete currently playing song" button in the main "now-playing" screen. I hear **** in my collection sometimes that I never want to hear again, but I am too lazy to go into the media manager and delete it. I'd rather just hit next track and continue listining to music.

What are the correct steps to removing and rebuilding a searchable library. I don't want to uninstall CF 1.6 and then reinstall to get the main setup. Is there an easier way? I am having a terrible time when I go to Media Manager and try to search for Artist, Albums, etc and nothing is there. I have to select Music Path to even see my MP3's. This is the first time this has happen and I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Go to settings/library and click Rebuild...

this will reimport all your music from your selected paths...

I had tried that several times, but it still didn't resolve the issue. I ended up deleting the "MAIN" file from C:\Program Files\Flux Media\Centrafuse and then running the installer to repair the installation. After that the library rebuild worked. Thanks for the quick response, and the app is the best!

can you email your error.log file in the main Centrafuse folder, if it exists... I would like to know how this happened... Rebuild should have worked without having to delete main.dat...

glad you got it working though!
