Quick CF 1.6 loading question

I noticed that it takes CF 1.6 a good while to load up my playlist (when I have all of my music loaded in). I realize most of you will say don't load up all of your music at once, but Apple made the iPod Shuffle because of people like me who just like to listen to a random bunch of all of their music. It's only about 4000 or so, songs, and it takes about 2-3 minutes for CF to begin playing the last played song.

Just curious if anyone else was having a longish load time when first starting CF 1.6?

Anyway, I've been playing with it and Road Runner off and on lately, and I'm definitely liking the native m4a tag reading support. Keep it up David.

I also feel the same way, I like to have all of my music loaded so I know I am listening to a random version of all my music. I will give you the bad news then the good news.

Bad News
Problems for me are this

Takes WAYYYYYYYYY Too long for centrafuse to que the playlist and let you play music. Winamp will que all my songs and I have over 100 gb in less then 30 seconds. Why can't centrafuse just que and play and index in the background becuase this is lame.

Also another thing I have found is that the intial index of my music takes about 30 minutes. So if I formatt or if I trash cf and reinstall it takes 30 minutes to que my music.

Good News

I read some where etheir in his bugs or future fixes or even a thread that he has realized that this is a issue for us and is working on it. Just as long as its a issue he is a aware of and will fix that is all I need.

But I think this is a more critical feature becuase music playing is the main thing to centrafuse and without that screw the rest of it.

With that many songs on a CF it would always take that long to load them all (well depends on the system) The only thing you could do is split the songs up say in there 1000's that way it wouldnt take as long and 1000 songs is a good amount of hours still to liston to

No it won't david said he will fix this so your wrong. Also why would winamp load all of it in less then 30 seconds but Centrafuse takes 30 minutes.... I know it sorts it different but it should let you do stuff and sort in the background. Even better it should que all the music and then sort it in the background.

What speed is your computer that is taking 30 minutes? I can load about 3000 songs in about 3 seconds on a 1.6 ghz pentium with 1.6...

On my M10000 it takes about 10 seconds maybe, but 30 minutes is crazy.

Ya thats what I am saying

I have tried it on my 2.0ghz celeron and a 1.6 pentium m

I am talking about the intial build of the libary. I have 118 gb of music and that just seems to be the reason. I build that and it takes and very long time but in winamp its less then 30 seconds. Also another thing is that after its built if I go to try and load some of it Centrafuse almost freezes and doesn't always load it. So I don't know maybe its the directory tree I have it set in but it lags. While winamp has no issue with nor should centrafuse.

So your saying that "split the songs up say in there 1000's that way it wouldnt take as long" is wrong?????

No what I am saying is that I want to load all of my music and not split it up. Randomize my full collection.

Even on my 2.8ghz machine it takes a long time I am right now rebuilding the music index and I will post screenshots on the time it took exactly. Imagine a much longer time in the car computer. Once music is queued I have no problems I am thinking its the folder tree but I don't see why winamp can do it and centrafuse can't.

So figure you could estimate the rest of the time I will post final load screenshots but so far 11:17

11:25 @ 25% you could say this time * 4 is a estimated time for me with 118 gigs of music. Just to build the index not even que music up. This is about 32 minutes jesus and this is on my 2.8ghz house computer. Imagine wut my poor car computer would be doing maybe 45 + minutes to build ....

I was not referring to rebuilding the library, that will take a lot longer. This reads every file into the library, very similiar to WMP, but in my own database.

I thought this post was in reference to loading a playlist with a large quanity of songs.

The library rebuilding isn't something that should be done on a regular basis if you add your new music with the importer. I also plan to buid a service to monitor the music directories to auto add music when new files are copied, again very similiar to WMP.

I put up with the load times becuase its a one time deal unless new versions come out. I load all my music at once so I get a random version of all of it. Also another problem is I like the cool favorite feature in centrafuse but if I load that I have to reload the list again. Favorites stopped working in 1.6 though always tells me it can't do it on usb drives when clearly its a ide hard drive. I read in the bugs that 1.7 its suppose to fix that.

My music goes through 4 folders before the acutal mp3 files are shown. I use folders to sort music vs software becuase I like having it sorted that way.

X:/mp3/rap/albums/Dr Dre/song.mp3
X:/mp3/rap/singles/Dr Dre/song2.mp3
X:/mp3/rap/various artists/B-BOP mix/song3.mp3

Maybe that makes it harder for centrafuse to sort through. Winamp is able to do it in under 30 seconds and I don't get why centrafuse takes so much longer what else is it doing vs winamp. Its just making a playlist right thats it.

Okay Final screenshots using Solid Capture!

39 Minutes to load 27,879 songs is crazy!

Winamp I should of used another clock with seconds becuase it was like 4 to 5 seconds max.

Verdict:

Centrafuse 39 Minutes to load 27,879 songs
Winamp Less then 5 seconds to load the same 27,879 songs

If centrafuse is doing more things then it should first que the music then finish what it needs to in the background and have a small status bar in the corner or something to let you know it is still working.

I just think its a bit crazy that on my 2.8ghz machine it takes that long. It must of been longer then I thought with my car like 1 hour or so.

Btw this is just on indexing the music next I have to add it to a playlist and this takes just as long. More screenshots are comming...

What can you do here david?

David,

Yes you are correct, this should be in reference to when you bootup your carpc to start playing tunes and you load up CF (like you normally would) and it displays the "Loading..." label at the top right of the screen. It takes a good minute or two to begin playing the music, and once again, it is loading up around 4000+ songs. I am willing to not even worry about it if there are even more speed-up fixes in 1.7.

Thanks for hardwork as always, David,

WinAMP is merely loading the files by filename into a playlist. Centrafuse is reading the tags and creating a database so that you can sort, search, and organize by Title, Artist, Album, and Genre. When I was running my Via M10000, it would take a while to load my entire library, but having switched over to the Pentium M setup, it loads in just a few minutes.
