DVD Aspect Ratio is wrong. . .ffdshow didn't work

Hi,
I have a laptop that will only output 800x600 (no widescreen resolutions) and my 16:9 lcd supports 800x600. The problem is that at 800x600, all the movies are squished vertically. first I tried to set centrafuse to display at 800x480 and then stretch everything back to full screen. This didn't work for the dvd video, it worked for the main program, though. I then tried to download ffdshow b/c I saw in other threads that it may correct the issue. It doesn't light up the mpeg 2 check box so that I can select it to decode dvds. I saw where ffdshow would resize the picture (several ways to do this it seems with this program) but I can't make it decode dvds. Where am I messing up? Is it even possible to correct my aspect ratio problems?

BTW, I may have found a solution on the board in another area. Here's the link: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=42122

I'm going to try it after I get my carnetix installed in the car so I can run at 720x400 (native resolution for my monitor)
