this is all in the license agreement, license.rtf in the Centrafuse folder...
It's the same as most software, one install per machine...

I think he's saying read the license agreement, and that's what's allowed.

Each Copy of CENTRAFUSE may be used by a single
person who uses the software personally on one
computer.

that's what the license says... on one computer...

What kind of pricing model is this
Hi David,
Just wanted to check with you, what kind of pricing model is this.. is it a one time fee for the product or an annual license fee?
Tell me how to buy it.
When does teh trial of ver 1.10 expire. I dont want to be stuck with no CF in my car.
Thanks
Viren

$349 for XLE I bet RR gets even more popular now
**** I can buy a PDA with TomTom on, which does almost everything CF does for less than that
So how much discount are us dedicated testers likely to get? That is the crunch now for me!
I simply cannot afford to spend more on the software than what I spent on hardware!!!
Or is this strategic pricing based on what streetdeck goes for ?

I'm very interested in buying the full version of this, but have just one concern.
I have never had any joy getting Phoco to work on any of my PC's with any of my phones. As I would be paying for a full version, what sort of gaurantee would I get that Phoco will work??

The 1.1 license was not changed from the previous release so it to will expire in May as is...
There is no annual fee, this is a one time software purchase with free upgrades as long as it's not a major version change...

Where did you get your car computer hardware and sceen for $349, I need to look into that...
The price of XLE is solely based on our current Destinator costs... The SE version is still available and there will be multiple navigation options available for SE such as the iGuidance plugin that is on the download page as well as we plan to get a MapPoint plugin, there already is one in the forums above, on the download page soon...
It will also still come with the trial of Destinator like the current versions with the test maps...

There is no guarantee, that is why there is a 30 day trial to see if it works with your hardware...
Have you been to http://www.phoco.net to see if you are using the right dongle, bluetooth stack, and have a compatible phone that others have gotten to work? There is a lot of information on the forums on that site...
with a compatible GSM phone and the Broadcomm/Widcomm stack 3.xx or higher PhoneControl should work...

David,
I've always had problems with this definition in the past (with software vendors at my work, even).
I think to avoid problems, there needs to be a very clear definition of what constitutes a new version, in terms of program changes and added functionality, not in terms of a version number alone.
There is a common practice amongst some developers to make a few incremental changes, bundle them together as a 1.0->2.0 upgrade, and then charge for an upgrade fee. That is because their definition of a major upgrade is not clear or simply vague and subjective.
Also, might be a good idea to put together some workding around the support for older versions. (ex.: previous major versions will be supported for a period of up to 6 months after being superseded, etc.)
Because CF is in $100 plus range, there will be quite high expectations around support, fixes, upgrades, etc. Stacked up against all the real big companies that sell software in this price range. For shareware stuff, people normally don't care much, but those are usually $15-$40.
So, not trying to preach... just want to avoid a situation in the future where you release v 2.0 and have to deal with an unavoidable overload of rage, simply because no one was clear what the upgrade path or licensing terms were. I've lived through that on the customer side twice already. It was not fun for anyone.

justintime: We do plan to outline what a major version change will be... I just posted the prices because I said I would and the time had come...
We still have some work to do, but with the updater working we will be selling very soon...
I have been in that situation from both the customer/consumer standpoint and from the company/development standpoint many times with products...
for a product like Centrafuse a major version change would be a new enhanced skinning system, multiple major feature additions (meaning new major sections of features), among others...
all bugs and enhancements will be not be considered a major update, as well as new features or sections might also be implemented through plugins that will end up for sale for low prices...
more than likely the version 2 major upgrade will be a complete re-write of the application with many improvements that will begin sometime late this year... many bugs and enhancements/features will continue to be added, most for free, but like I said there could be very nice features added as plugins either written by Flux or not written by Flux...
david

After all your hard work with CF, reading that bit really depressed me. You're starting off from scratch only 6-9 months after releasing v.1.0? wow, Im floored!

If you going to start from scratch I say change the whole way we look at these carputers and make this a completely standalone frontend, as in no windows. The one major thing you would need to achieve would be to make bootup extremely fast.
I know this is next to impossible, and it would never happen, but there's always hopping. There is just so much overhead with windows, and most of us don't use it, other than for something the current frontends sit on top of.
