It will still need to buffer something initially, otherwise the audio won't be upconverted to more than 2 channels, correct? I imagine that the buffer/recorded audio could be a few hundred milliseconds... was that your plan? A fraction of a second is "instant" enough for me, but you had me scared using that word as I am afraid you might lose the buffer entirely, making the upconverting 'feature' dissapear at the same time.

I hope I was clear with my concern?

My baseline for the past 6 weeks has been "A.I.M.E.E.", that app switches pretty durn quick. Right now, I'm seeing a total of about 12 seconds for CF to switch to a new channel and start playing audio.

update: I played with this on the way in to work. I'm seeing either 9 seconds or 12 seconds. 9 seconds comes when I bounce back & forth repeatedly between two channels. If I go away from the XM plugin, and let CF sit idle for "a while" (at least an hour on my system) then come back into XM, the first channel switch will be 12 seconds. The additional 3 seconds is more than likely from something being swapped in, either via Windows or CF itself.

Is anybody else having trouble getting all of the XM channels to load properly?

I also have a couple of questions about the channel refresh setting:

1. What does it do (yes, I know that it refreshes the channels, but why is it necessary to refresh the channels?)

2. How often should I refresh the channels?;

3. When I refresh the channels should I just hit OK when the refreshing channels window comes up or is the window supposed to disappear after it finishes doing what it's doing?

Sorry if I'm being dense about this, but I'm wondering if this setting has something to do with all of my channels not loading properly.

new bug...
  • Starting at XM favorites screen, with XM audio playing
  • Put system into hibernate (soft press on PC power button)
  • Resume from hibernate
  • CF restores with XM plugin showing, in FAV screen.
  • "LOADING" message comes up
  • CF is hung
100% repeatable

I don't know if this is a problem with me or if it has been listed or fixed (I tried looking!) When I try to switch songs a lot it will stop playing all together... This happens roughly 30 minutes into playing and all I have to do is restart CF and reload it. This happened in RC2 and in RC1 (which I am currently using). I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem or has any suggestions.. thanks!

This is a bug, when running in dual screens.
The DVD, and video a starting i monitor 2, and its working fine.

But when your are hearing music, and want to have the vis. in monitor 2, its not starting there automatic, you have 2 make a click in the vis square.

Then the vis. a in monitor 2, and CF in monitor 1, but now you cant controle CF, but only click in the song list, you cant use any of the buttons, until you click in the vis. square again to close it.

Also a nice future would be to move the gps to screen 2.

Ok, I got one. The other day I was getting a lot ot the next-track causing a FastForward issue, so I had to keep hitting play/pause in order to get it to play again instead of FFing. After doing that a bit, I got it in a state where it was playing 2 songs at the same time. One song changed with navigation/play/pause, but the other one would never pause or anything. I had to exit CF and restart it in order to make it stop playing the 2nd song.

BTW: It's not just next-track that sticks causing FF, I have had the favorites button get stuck (causing a load of the favorites playlist) and the page-down button get stuck (causing continual scrolling/looping of the now-playing list)

David: When can we expect a new release that doesn't have sticky buttons?

The sticky button is the only bug remaining before I release RC2.1...

I was not able to reproduce it on a machine until last night...

the issue can happen on any button that can be held down, so that includes volume up/down, fastforward, rewind, dim, page up/down, dim, back, and favorties...

The mouse up event stopped firing for some reason, which is what tells the system to stop the threads from the hold fucntionality...

I am working on it and hope to have it solved tonight...

david

That makes a lot of sense... had not made the connection that it only happened on buttons that allowed hold-down. Good detective work on that one. Looks like we will finally have a release with single click back!

Update... Being on the XM screen (or any specific screen) at the time of hibernating has nothing to do with the problem or the symptoms. i.e., starting the repro steps from the main screen still ends up in a "loading" message with CF hung when you resume.

i have the same exact copies of CF rc2 installed on my desktop, and my carpc.

i am having a volume problem, but its a bit different from what you guys are describing. with mine, i can adjust the volume all the way down to mute even, wait a couple seconds, and then it will gradually start increasing its way to max. it even take it in steps, increasing a bunch, decreasing a little, then increasing more until it gets to max. once its at max i cannot adjust the volume down at all.

the problem is ONLY happening on my carpc. i cannot recreate it on my desktop.

David: I just looked through all your fixed/known bug lists and you were missing something easy that really bothers me...

On the now-playing list, enter does not play the selected song.

Up/Down/Enter works fine for all other lists allowing me to navigate them with my Griffin PowerMate control knob, but on the main now-playing list only Up/Down work, so once I find what I want to listen to, I have to click using the touch-screen or Alps Glide-Point instead of just pressing the knob my hand is already on.

...and I can no longer reproduce the Devide-By-Zero error when toggling between music/video playlists either. It just went away I guess (???).

This has been fixed as of last night finally...
