Viewing Pictures in CF
Hi all,
Just noticed 2 "bugs" and maybe a feature you may want to think about adding:
Bugs:
1. When you go into Library, then select your picture folder (or sub-folder) you can't click on the "+" to Queue the pictures and then save as a playlist. Says something like "Can't load folder" (sorry can't exactly remember the error). Not sure if this was a feature or not to stop people from being able to save pictures as a playlist. However, you can press "Play" to view the files once you've loaded the folder to view the slideshow, you can go back to "Playlist" and click on Queue and actually save the queued files as a playlist. So you can still save the images as a playlist using this method. When you load this playlist it doesn't give you the slideshow option and there's no way to skip between pictures.
2. When you scroll up or down a selection of pictures in the main screen it takes ages to go up and down the list. I can literally count the seconds (5-8seconds) before it skips to the next row of images. This has to be fixed.
Feature:
3. When viewing pictures will there be a way to change the slideshow time as well as a manual way where you can skip through the pictures backwards and forwards?

The first is a bug and I will look into it and fix it... The second problem is probably it creating your thumbnails... The first time you view pictures it has to create the thumbnails, then after that it should be fast... how slow is your machine? It works fine on my M10000... But the initial paging is slow while it creates all the thumb nails...
I was thinking about adding where when you click the slide show it skips the picture and a double click exits and there is no configurable time right now...

my system is on an MII12000 testbed. how long do you normally have to wait before your pictures load? i'll test it out on one of my folders but FYI it has about 200+ photos on this folder. not sure how long it's supposed to take to create the thumbnails.

It creates the thumbnails for each page that you view, so as you page for the first time through all 200 it will take a second, how long all depends on the quality and size of the image...
Then after you have created thumbs by viewing all your photos the first time, every other time you go to view the same photos it should browse fast...

is there a way to pre-fetch the thumbnails, like how xp does it when you view picture folders as thumbnails.

this is exactly what it does... It just creates the thumbnails the first time you view them, after that it only loads the thumbnails...
open up the picture folder, hit page down and wait, go all the way to the bottom and view every page... then every thumb will be created...
from this point forward when you go back into pictures it will be fast and use the thumbnails...
same as windows, first time you hit a folder there is a delay with just a folder as it's creating the thumbnails, just VIA slow processors make it take a couple of seconds....

sorry, what i meant was, before i even scroll down to the last line of the picture list, is it possible to create the thumbnails before I scroll, so this would stop the delay when I scroll through each line? it would be a lot easier to wait a little longer when the whole album is having it's thumbnails created than when you actually scroll and have the thumbnails created when you go through each line.

ok another thing i've noticed is that if the picture is pre-rotated to view length-ways (taller up and down), CF will stretch the picture width-ways. however if it has been rotated within CF itself it will appear fine.
is shuffle also supposed to work for the slideshow?

shuffle doesn't work for slideshow and I will check out the width issue....
