Still awesome work David...

Found a bug too (i think). I did a complete XP Home reinstall without any tweaks etc (yet). And then i installed CF RC5.

Everytime the system is turned off i need to go to media and select a song before it starts playing. Even the mp3 tag isn`t showing there. As far as i`m sure (for 99%) older releases would start playing immediatly at startup. Hibernate doesn`t have this problem.

- Autostart Music = On
- Autoplay Media = On

VFD LCD etc

Hey David, still no luck on the LCD issue for me. my HD44780's are both wired up using the usual method, and they work fine with LCD center, but not with CF.

if there is a possibility that the wiring schematic I used for both of mine is different from the one you used to wire your own, would you be willing to post the wiring schematic you used for yours?

I will strip one of my lcds down and start over with a new lpt cable and follow your schematic. this will rule out the possibility that the wiring is at fault, and we can potentially get to the bottom of it.

I am really looking forward to finally having my sweet blue lcd running in my car. so keep up the good work, and get back to us with your wiring diagram ok?

thanks in advance.

I used to program for Apple Macintosh MacOS systems a few years back (before I switched to PC, and ditched programming altogether for some other more lucrative business). When I stored the app's user 'Preferences' (the 'settings'), I stored them in a flat file in text format. It had very little structure, I did not use XML, and INI files as we know them on the PC where non-existent. I encountered the same issue you have where upgrades would require added/removed/altered settings on the saved preferences file.

My updaters/patches managed that seamlessly to the user: It would scan through the preference file, determine what needed to be changed, and did it all behind the scenes, preserving my user's settings.

Now with CF, you are golden. Your settings are in a well structured format (XML), so you are already one step ahead in terms of having the ability to easily scan through the file, alter your user's settings, and adapt them to be compatible with new upgraded versions.

Now I know this is not totally trivial, and it will require effort on your part to code this, sometimes on a case-by-case basis for each upgrade. You might be thinking this is time better spent in other areas of CF, new features etc... but keep in mind that this will come back and bite you in the cheeks (where the sun don't shine!). You see, even after your final release, you will find that you need to add a setting here or there, and you really cannot expect your users to loose all their settings just to upgrade to a new point version/revision of CF. Those users will have paid, and thery are no longer in Beta mode, so they will be very upset.

In summary: CF is a fantastic app. Don't let this irritating upgrade issue take away from it. Thanks.

I agree with you and midiwall 100%... I personally did not code the updater, another developer that works with Flux did... I have taken the project and will add the three features it lacks..

The ability to update config file values and add config file nodes/values... The ability to delete files, not just add them... It also needs the ability to update itself, update the updater...

I plan to focus on this in the next release...

I put a lot of time into XM for RC5 because I finally got the go ahead from XM legally...

I ran out of time and CES came on fast, so I went ahead and released because I already had the MSI for customers at the show...

I will get the updater fixed and understand it's importance...

PLEASE FIX THE SOUND ISSUE!

It's only a handful of soundcards that have poorly written drivers... Basically most sound drivers if you try to adjust the volume for a device in playback/recording that does not exist, just does nothing...

with a few sound cards it sends the master volume to zero... In the latest release I added a check to see if the device existed before trying to adjust it and also added the ability to disable control of rear/sub when they do not exist in settings...

it appeared to fix the problem, but I will look back into it...

The other note about SMS text messages might be on the CF end, I am looking it it... I know the ability to send a SMS message to a number not in your phonebook is not properly worked like I expected...

I will get these both fixed...

It seems like it doesnt refresh the com port that the bluetooth gps is assigned to.

This can be solved by installing XPort3 or GPSGate

It is a Bluetooth issue... When you hibernate it actually removes the serial port temporarily, which in turns messes up navigation software...

Glad you're back from CES. Did you see that awesome OEM Carputer System, built by Aopen?! Some stiff competition, huh?

Does this create an error.log file? It works fine on all my test machines...

Used this feature demoing on 6 machines at CES as well with RC5....

CES went great, we were at the Microsoft Automotive tent...

Did you have a chance to go there at all?

I meant to post the location of all our booths, but did not get the chance...

I will have some pictures on the site soon...

It was a nice system, we have a way nicer systems being built that you should see this summer though

I really want to get to the bottom of this issue...

I have one I wired probably 3 years ago, so I do not have the diagram I used, but will look at the pinouts when I get a chance... It's all enclosed in a case...

I also pulled 2 VFD's, one out of a DVine HTPC case and one out of a Silverstone case and they both worked perfect...

Also noone has had any issues over at digital-car with their VFD's, multiple reports of everything working fine...

I know midiwall offered and possibly you as well to send these VFD's to me for testing, I will accept this offer now because I feel it is the only way I can resolve the issue...

It is probably a simple mistake that some VFD's can handle in the way I am sending the data...

I would send them back, please PM me about these anyone having VFD issues that has a spare to lend temporarily while I get things fixed...

david

I have updated the known issues thread...

This contains all the bugs found on about 4 forums, private beta testers, interal beta testers, and feedback from everyone that was giving the demos and error logs from CES....

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/centrafuse/80817-centrafuse-known-issues.html

It looks long, but most should be pretty easy to fix...

First things first is fix the updater

Then I will knock these bugs out quick and get an update released...

thanks for all the testing...

david

David... You certainly have the priorities right! Fixing the updater first is the way to go... then when you do have updates, people will be happy about bugs getting fixed, rather than angry about having to set everything up manually again!

I was not at CES. I followed all the good stuff via engadget, and the carputer was posted there just a few days ago.

It doesn't work for me on 2 machines (Jetway 7F2WE-2G-OC and Fujitsu Pentium 4 2.6GHz HT).

It doesn't work if your setteings are :
Settings-->General-->Startup location-->Main menu

but if the settings are :
Settings-->General-->Startup location-->Media its works!
