I am still waiting to get a list of all the compatible receivers that will work with RDS TMC in Centrafuse, Destinator.

I am fairly certain that these will work, because I have used them with Destinator before.

GNS has a patent on the merging of GPS with TMC (better: RDS!) and so they pulll everybody to law (taiwanes/chinese) - companies which produce GPS mouses with TMC. So all TMC/GPS mouses on the market are from GNS ans so they work (and are expensive )

Would it be possible to get RDS/TMC from a USB radio reciever, and then just use any old GPS reciever and have the combination done in software?
This way we don't have to throw away our current GPS recievers.

Won't RDS/TMC be taken for the HQCT which should be the preferred Radio solution for most with CF.

You would need two HQCT modules... One tuned to the station getting TMC data and feeding it to GPS and another one to actually listen to the radio...

that is the problem with that... The best solution is the already tested GPS/RDS receivers, or a future version of the HQCT that has two chips, one that can stay locked on for TMC, but this wouldn't be easy...

I'm working on getting access to the XM feed as well, but it's mainly just business people talking back and forth, taking forever and who knows where it will go... they are changing everything over there right now...

I think veetid isn't reading my postings - can anyone kick him !?

I also don't like the words "you need a HQCT" it should mean "you need a RDS providing Radio like the HQCT"

TMC datas are merged inside the RDS stream - so every RDS Radio delivers TMC - means you don't need a expensive GPS/TMC mouse.
If you don't understand things have a look at the program ShowGPS with a TMC mouse - it shows you the RDS data like station name !
It is a full radio without "audio" section !

As you can listen to a station which transfer TMC datas you need only 1 radio receiver - so it would be cool to have a Signal-LED in Centrafuse which shows you "TMC" - so that you can tune and listen to a station with TMC (ever seen a Blaupunkt Travelpilot Ex ?).

Currently (15 September 2006 22:20) I have written a radio driver (in .NET 1.1!) for the HQCT which spits out RDS... now I am pimping up my RDS Interpreter that it delivers also EON data (which is something like a station list) and more RDS features. In the next version this RDS Interpreter will merge its RDS data to a COM Port for Destinator so that you can kick your TMC mouse away ! (but don't throw it away if you have really one you may later need it for something cool !)
As I got the TMC locationlist for germany I could also deliver TMC infos to the Frontends. You want it also for your country ? - then GO and look for the TMC locationlist !
(may be you rip it out of Destinator?)

I hope someone can write a similar driver for the Silabs radio... That the frontend developers can use 1 driver for implementation and other drivers will work too.

Surely to get the RDS/TMC data and recieve radio, you would have to be listening only to the station that provides the TMC data.

In the UK this station is Classic FM. No thanks, not my sort of music.

then it may be a good idea to get a second RDS provider (which gets the TMC infos) like a
- GPS/TMC mouse
- extra HQCT (unneeded audiosection)
- a Silabs USB Radio (should be okay for only RDS)

...if it has all the TMC infos (scanning every 10 Minutes should be enough) then it looks the AF table of your current listening station for better frequencies or scans for a complete station list of all stations you can actualy tune to !
(ever seen a Blaupunkt NewYork or Bremen with the all stations selectable from the large display ?)

Just misunderstood... I would love to talk with you about your work with the HQCT... send me a PM...

Yes, TMC is merged inside the RDS-data stream,
IF the radio station transmits it.

Over here the only ones who does are the ones you normally
don't listen to. Therefor you still need two RDS tuners, one to
tune into your radio station of choice and one to scan for TMC data.

One "solution" I could live with (since I have a TMC reciver,
a HQCT and a ublox-DR GPS reciever) would be the option of
running two GPS recivers, one for GPS-data and one for TMC-data
(the GNS protocol is different than raw TMC data). This should be
a fairly easy modification for David.
