I just said rumor because I personally never read anything official from XM themselves... just read stuff on forums... that was a mute point of the post anyway...

Now what differentiates a plug in from just a regular embedded app?
A lot of these ideas sound like they could just be an app

A plugin will be a lot better than just trying to embed an external application.. The SDK gives you a standard set of controls to create such as list views, buttons, labels, picture boxes, etc... It will also give you a standard skinning and multi-language model and you get access to everything in the SDK... you can do plugin to plugin communication, load albums, load videos, access to tons of commands... Look through the api to understand why...

How about something kinda like a screen saver, but would run instead of a visualization embedded in CF, that would to the following while playing music (each one of the following is it's own screen):
- Display current weather (pulled from weather module)
- Display major news headlines (rss feeds?)
- Display time in large numbers
- Display traffic maps (pulled from metro websites)
- Display pictures
- Display email counts after checking
And cycle between them all? Maybe there's something that can do all this and can simply be embedded into CF.

Ideas:
PIM Plugin (syncs with outlook)
OBD Plugin
Maybe a SKINbedder plugin to let your embedded apps use CFs skinning API rather than my own skinning system (although my design is already copied largely from CF)

I LIKE that idea !!!!!
I too would also like some sort of camera record.
David, you are directing CF to ba a standalone app that is the only thing running (visable), so I am sure that there are many here that would like the ability to record a bunch of different ways.
Multiple camera images joined together ( front/back/internal-L/internal-R ) as well.
a cache of video, say 20 minutes to half an hour. This way if some idiot swerves into your car, you can show up with proof in court.
Another function would be a quick button to keep recording past the cutoff, like if a cop pulls you over and starts harrasing you, you can burn him in court.
 Just a thought
Don

How about a simple plugin to take Notes? Sometimes I want to type something quickly, like a license plate or whatever... I envision something really simple, with large text. Multiple entries in a listing...

Sounds like a great idea! That would be a perfect first simple project for me in using the 1.5 SDK when it's released. I wouldn't mind tackling this, if you want.

yeah, a note-taker would be sweet.. especially if it supported both text and voice memos!

as of right now there aren't any plugins because they won't be supported until the next release.

iTunes plugin? CF already plays media. Why do people insist on using inferior music managers just because they are built by Apple or M$??? iTunes is a POS and there are many other music manager that function in the same basic way without the bugs and DRM bull that iTunes forces upon you.

Oh... well in that case, CF does support AAC files I believe (but you would have to un-DRM songs purchased in iTunes). Apple doesn't allow anything other than iTunes and iPODs to play their DRMed content as far as I know. You really shouldn't purchase DRMed music. For the music you have already purchased, if you search google a bit you should come up with multiple ways to un-DRM Apple music.
