Trouble getting new skin to work

Hi, I'm having trouble with getting a new skin with a native resolution of 1024x768 to work on 1024x768... no rescaling needed, but with the exception of the play button, none of the 'down' states are displayed. The buttons work, but you just don't see 'm change state. Not even the shuffle and mute buttons, which should remain in their down state.
First thought it was because I use 24b PNG, but the Onyx skins do as well and converting to 8b PNG didn't help.
And I don't see any icons in the main screen, but I have to check if I edited the XML correctly (doing all by hand 'cos the skin editors I've found just don't work).

Preview:

This preview is a mockup, 'cause those icons aren't visible.
If I ever get it finished I'll release it, but I doubt there'll be many people wanting it as it's made to fit a groovy old campervan in a '60/'70 ad style
(so no slick techno style widescreen skin, cause that would just be strange (ok, so is a carpc...) in a 58BHP machine with a topspeed of 100km/h and needing about a minute to get to that topspeed )

Ok, problem has disappeared, or at least doesn't surface in 4.2
Anyway, I can go on with developing my groovy 60s skin

But hey, new problem
While positioning the icons of the mainmenu buttons, I noticed there's a bug in handling some transparent PNGs which causes the icons to be a bit bigger and shifted to the right and bottom... quite a weird problem

Left: with background, right without. (Left is exactly the same picture, only saved with a white matte). The left one has the correct placement.
The procedure was quite simple: I took the media icon from the Onyx WS skin and just resized it to 128x128 and saved it with Photoshop (which should make it the exact same file format as it was). The version with background was saved through 'save for web' in Photoshop with a white matte. Next I saved a transparent version through 'save for web' and that one just works as it should! Apparently there's a difference between those two, I just can't find it (they're both PNG-32 while the version with background is PNG-24).
For those interested, I've put the three icons in a RAR.
Anyway, I'm going to resave all the icons with 'save for web'.
(Yes, I know I shouldn't be using the Onyx icons for my own skin, but they're a temporary solution... wanna get the basic skin working before designing new icons (and dialogs and other screens and... pff ))

Also the scaling problem is still present:

(Onyx WS Night skin in 1024x768 sometimes gets a blue line around - usually - the play/pause button)
