Removing buttons in CF

When I try to remove a button within the Button Layout it says I cannot. So what is another way to do it?

I want to eventually create my own skin from scratch, but need to get familiar with the functions of CF first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

make the button all 0's, then take the graphics out... no more button... it's still there, but invisable & unclickable, so it's not there
