WTB (maybe): CD head unit with rear aux-in

I'm thinking about buying a head unit for my car to go with my mp3 project, here's what I'm looking for:

single CD
at least 6 FM presets
REAR aux in
single DIN
decent quality unit, but I don't want to break the bank

I might not buy this from you right now, but if someone has a really good price and a cool head unit, I'll buy. *convince* me to spend my money

I'm looking to spend less than $120, thanks.

The guy at the local high end store recommended it and it doesn't need any stupid propietary connector to access the aux input.

You're probably going to have a hard time coming up with something new for $100 that sounds better than your stock deck and a tape adapter or RF modulator. Hopefully you will get lucky and find something good used though!

I think the closest thing that you'll be able to find is going to be a standard AIWA deck. Most of those have a front AUX-IN, which you could convert/add a rear-aux with some simple tracing and soldering. Your request seems a little surreal. I'd love to do Heather Locklear, but I'm sure it'll cost me more than $100.

*edit* cheapest CD head unit on www.goodguys.com is a Kenwood for $150 (ie- if that's the bare minimum, your price range is a bit low for your project's goals.)

*edit* search for AIWA model# AIW CDCZ127 on www.circuitcity.com - it's only $120, and should fit your needs.

I have an Aiwa headunit that i bought from bestbuy for 100 bucks with front AUX-IN...

How do u trace and solder a rear aux-in??You have a website that shows how to do this??

After reading through a lot of the hack/mod soldering ideas on here, this idea's actually pretty simple:

Take an old set of headphones with the wire leads exposed (or a raw headphone plug). Pull out your head unit and pop that baby open. Put the faceplate back on the unit, then plug in that headphone cord. Look at the base circuit board and locate the group of soldering points which connect to the faceplate's "plug". Use an Ohm-meter to trace which solder points coordinate to which pin on your headphone cord. Then just wire up a couple of wires out the back of your headunit to another headphone jack.

One of these days I'm going to do it to my Panasonic deck. I'll have to take pictures and share when I do.

Bought my Kenwood on closeout from Audio King. Keep checking back with those places and you're bound to find them trying to get rid of last years stock...

Do a search for your stereo of choice on Ebay - though I doubt you'll get a receipt for your purchase and the harness will probably be torn up!!! (j/k)
