FS: 25' CAT5 IDE Cable & 3.5" PVP Player! CHEAP!

(1x) 25' CAT5 IDE Cable
Hey there guys. I just finished making my 25' Cat5 cable when I realized that my cousin needs a dvd-rom drive and I graciously offered mine! I can take pics of it if you want but it's basically 5x 25' strands of cat5 sliced into both ends of a 40pin IDE cable. Both ends are insulated with liquid electric tape and topped off and stuck together with hot glue and then wrapped in blue electric tape to keep it all together and to give that oem appearance. Asking $25 shipped in the US.

I only tested it on the testbed which didn't have an o/s installed or anything, but bios recognized the dvd-rom no problem and even was able to load atapi drivers through dos. Feel free to reply, email or PM me any Q's that come to mind! I'll take offers too on the PVP players. Excellent price already for an excellent player, but I have to get of theses soon since the people I bought them for as gifts aren't techy enough to know how to use them!

I'm not trying to ruin anything for you... but without any shielding I seriously wonder about the performance of that cable in an automotive setting.

You should try it out first (with the motor running) and see how well it performs.

Edit: Unless of course its shielded cat5, but you didn't specify so I assumed it was plain ole regular unsheilded cat5.

Shielded...unshielded? I never heard of such a thing. All Category 5 cables are shielded which is why people use them for such applications. More importantly I want to sell the the pvp's so make me an offer on those!

Sorry, the CAT5 spec doesn't specify it should be shielded, so mostly it is NOT shielded (we do cabling, that's why I know). UTP is UNSHIELDED twited pair, STP is SHIELDED twisted pair, you have both meeting CAT5 specifications.

People use them for 'such applications' because they are cheap and can be found everywhere. The twisting of the pairs keeps noise out, only for BALANCED signals, so not at all for most applications.
