Dude, I got an On-Star mirror on E-Bay for $25 shipped. It has all the same features (compass, temp, auto-dim) plus a microphone, map-lights, 2 LEDs, and 3 buttons that you can wire up to your car PC. You guys are nuts to pay $80.

I'm looking at them now.
And as far as auto dim goes, is it working ok? I'm assuming to have the mirror auto dim, it needs power?

Funny, I just posted about the mic in a different thread.
Auto-Dim works fine. Yes, it needs just power (as do the map-lights).
I wired the power, 2x LEDs, 3x buttons (1-wire resistive), and mic. The mic does not work but I believe that is because it needs a bias (a greater one than my on-board sound can supply). If anyone knows anything about "injecting a bias" between the on-star mic and the sound card, please post or PM me.
On the other hand, maybe the mic is fine and my PC was just mis-configured... I did not spend much time debugging it, and I have not had a CarPC for a month as I am still working on my upgraded PC and needed parts from the old one (just been too busy to get the new one done).
If anyone else has successfully connected an On-Star mic to a PC (with or without a separate BIAS supply), please post or PM me.
Edit: If you can, get one with the wiring harness so you have the proper connector. I could not source the plug through Molex, Amp/Tyco, or Samtek. I ended up just soldering wires to the pins. I used a cut iPOD cable because it is very tiny, has many wires, and it has a shielded pair for the mic audio. Also, I was able to find one that fit my existing windshield mount (the kind that is a wedge of metal glued to the windshield). If you get one that comes down from the roof, it may be a pain to install.

This is really sad, and this affects the whole community. Now I will think twice before I buy something from someone here. I would reather pay $20-$40 more and buy from a trusted online store. Besides $50.00 is nothing compared to the trust of the community here.
Shame

Hope you can get your money back..
It seriously bugs me when someone really pushes getting rid of an item (bumping, spamming I need money etc) and then sends a broke one/the one NOT advertised. Sorry for reviving the thread, I just found his myspace and found it hilarious.. I'm sure most would agree. (Not trying to start a flame war).. Hope you can get his email or something and let him know that fraud is illegal.
