Don't worry about it, you've been very responsive and are still offering great deals when you could in all honesty probably be making a killing here if you listed the remainder on ebay. Thanks for the email and all the good work.

You snooze you loose. I don't ***** when I miss a good deal on a mod I want for my car.
Why I need 2? Because the one I have is B&W. I want to have 2 cameras, one for front of the car, and one for rear. The computer will be recording both like in survalence.

Me too. Got the back in (different camera), just waitng for the lens to come to moun the other in the front. The other nitemaxes are for tinkering.
Don't know how you plan to record, I'm not using the PC (at least not alone), I'm using a security VCR I got off ebay cheap (Sanyo SRT6000). Get's up to 40 hours of one tape, has a million screw terminals (for alarm inputs, etc) and rs232/rj485 control. Which if you're interested in that route, I've written a perl module to control those vcrs.

Yeh
I plan on putting in a PCI card that does recording. Computer has a 160gb HD. I'll be offloading the files once a month to DVDs. So I think it would be awesome. I'll probably retrofit my fog lights to IR emitters and mount the camera ontop or behind my mirror.

Pretty close trajectories.
I have a couple cap cards, but I'd really like something better (and linux friendly)
The ones that I have that are usable under linux aren't all that fast (especially considering my current setup is a 433 laptop with a slow but rugged Endurostar harddrive). I'll have to get a hauppauge at some point.
Also figure the vcr will survive a much bigger impact if someone nails me. The NM is going on mirror, I'm putting ir in the fogs too. Got the illumiators off some medical equipment, have issues controlling them though so it's off until I get some more free time.

I unfortunately use windows, as its hard designing programs for the mass market (windows) under linux
I'm sure I can find a card on ebay that has multiple inputs. Probably has software too.

why not just buy a color CCD and wire the board with RCA out and power in? You don't need a whole camera for what you want to do. Save yourself a buck or two.

Yeh.... I don't need the LCD. I just need the CCD, and the RCA out, and the case so I can mount a lens.

hehe, nitemax has actaully made me want to invest in a TV capture card wit its RCA out. I'm still not sure why you want to record everything at all, since you'll either need to set up an auxilary computig system to do it easily (see SBC) or have it leech valueable proccessor and memory space. but i would do a solid state or microdrive, for shock restance and best writing performance under bumps, and then burn its contents to DVD. maybe i don't get why you want to because i don't like creating, having, and stockpiling DVDs of hours of evidence of my traffic transgressions

You mean RCA in. There's some cards on ebay for like store monitoring cameras, multiple cameras. I plan on getting one of those. It shouldn't take up too much memory (plus I'm not going to be using an epia.... I'll be using a Semptron 2800+). The video is in B&W, and its not high resolution (compared to DVD). I want to see what the color CCD looks like. I'll probably end up putting it for trade for a B&W one later if I don't like it.
Hard drives can now withstand some pretty big shocks (atleast based on the specs of my maxtor).

I use both (but gradually spending more and more time on my debian desktop, I've used linux for years but server stuff).
You can find some bt87* based boards pretty cheap on ebay (some only have one encoder, though some have 4 encoders).

And people ask me why I'm going with a full sized ATX board

RCA in..sorry .
HDD's can survive shocks with data retention, but for writing, since you have fast spinning moving platters, writing and reading is a differnt story at times. Solid state media has no moving parts, which is why HDD based mp3 players aren't recoomdending for jogging or excercising while flash based players are. The trade off is speed for rugged reliability. I mean, for video, you want speed and data retention, but the last thing you want is to be reading, writing, and then bump, you got a new bad cluster that causes your video playback to freeze because of an "unexpected error".
Also, get B&W. I'm curious to see what color will yeild, but B&W is wonderful enough in my mind. That reminds me...i was supposed to take pics last night before i crashed, wasn't i...

Thought so
If the data doesn't get written, it doesn't just disappear. It gets written somewere else. I think what the engineers did with the new HDs (I've got a maxtor 160gb with NCQ) is make sure that the heads don't hit each other during bumps. Specs. Operational shock for 2ms ing (G): 60... Non-operating Mechanical Shock for 2ms (G): 300. So I'm sure that it will survive. As impacts are not that long. IIRC airbags go off at 3G.
I guess I could go for B&W. If it means cleaner image then yeh. I'm just kind of curious if you know what I mean
