Cloud Computing-Tiny Info...

Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure in the "cloud" that supports them.

The concept incorporates infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) as well as other recent (ca. 2007–2009)technology buzzwords that have the common theme of reliance on the Internet for satisfying the computing needs of the users. Cloud computing services usually provide common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.

The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on how the Internet is depicted in computer network diagrams, and is an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals.

Tom,

Do you see cloud computing having an impact on in car computing?
I am looking for the relevance to: MP3Car.com > Mp3Car Technical

Been there, done that, isn't worth wild in a car. In the end I simply dumped that idea and decided to add 6 systems with their own OS. Problem with cloud computing is that the system storing the virtual drive has to be h3lla powerful. Also, you cant use that system holding the images. Also internet connectivity is not powerful enough yet to have any of the equipment on a network streaming to the car. It just causes to many headaches.

Not powerful YET, exactly, but the systems will be, this is what Sun is working on, and connectivity will be more cheap and powerful as well as readily available. When this happens, what will you be able to do with mobile computing that you are not doing now because it is too expensive, difficult, or time consuming? That is the question we are all asking ourselves around the office here.

When computing power is cheap, in the Cloud, and you have no trouble connecting to the Cloud anytime, anywhere, what will you be able to do, what will it change? Which companies will fall, because the disruptive technology caught them off guard, which little companies will get lucky and grow because they made the right bet, what will federal governments want to restrict?

Cloud computing is the future. Imagine the cloud made up of all the cars on the highway, collecting and sharing road data (ice, accidents, traffic, etc).

Tom, when you copy and paste, you should link to the original article.

I agree, eventually it will catch up.... thats why I am leaving space to incorporate it into my system. People will already be able to pull up next to my car and share my database of music, videos and maybe internet. It would be awesome to drive up next to someone else and browse their stuff and download what need be. Access programs via clouding and what not. I think I may have misunderstood but I mixed up my terminology, I meant that virtualizing the PC itself is almost impossible in the car, the tech is too limited, but cloud computing on the other hand would be awesome.

I agree, it is. I think what happened with TOM is that he must have put up a link that was pointing to Spam, and the Mods edited his link, then gave him negative feedback.

do7d is on a distinguished road
nice.

back to subject a moment, this entire thing will finally be put to the test soon- at least in larger city areas that have 4g available (wimax ring a bell?) with bandwidth between 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps we'll be able to more easily support the entire concept. i have been able to use my mobile internet to remote desktop into a computer running centrafuse (using a Dell Axim x50v running wm5 and the oem remote desktop client) and be very usable. since my home internet is 8mbps, and im using an evdo phone- it's good enough to keep a "post-it"-like desktop avail for notes to self, media archive, etc. but not enough to stream video media. if you try the same setup using web from most 802.11, it's a good deal more feasable. by utilizing this method, you can use ANY web enabled device (reguardless of on-board media size) to stream media, etc. this is where the huge vga screen, good media storage options, and 624mhz proc in the axim works exceptionally well.

basically- now the digital switchover is finally here, wimax will be able to get off the ground reasonably soon- getting us closer to where we need to be for good quality stream.

---

umm, wait a minute.. am i thinking about something entirely different? just after i posted, i read what i wrote, then edited here. but im not sure it's different, but another use for the term. i've been playing with the idea for years but could never make the connection. in fact, looking back at the posts, i believe i am wrong- i understand what cloud computing is now. what is the name for what i had described?
