Okay, Ive already started on this little project.
It's going to involve writing device-drivers (which I hate),
but I should hopefully have it done it a week or two.
I'll keep anyone interested posted on the progress!

I'd actually be quite interested in this, any luck getting it going?

Thats kinda along the lines of what we're looking for, but something much for detailed. Where you can actually get the _level_ of the battery, too.

I can find a million uses for it,, like have the carpc go standby after 10 mins, but turn off/hibernate after 2 hours... that way you have peace of mind in knowing that your battery will never die.

I agree, I think this thread and the idea behind it is great, it's just that nothing much has came from it, as far as the thread is concerned. And because it's as of yet not developed fully, its not yet very useful.

A few of us have made something that can do it. Here's one from Evandude:

Mine's older and less complex. You just check the voltage with the PIC, wake up the PC if it's in standby and the software side puts it in hibernate. I don't use standby too often since my PC uses a lot of power, but I've noticed that after it shuts down, the voltage goes back up about 0.5v so at least there's enough to start the car. I'd still rather it not use up so much.
