First of all, the Ibiza isn't a VAG. It just uses the same protocol as most european cars do. So, if the ELM327 supports such a protocol on my Fiat Punto, I'm sure it also supports in on the Ibiza (as all european cars made after 2001 MUST use the EOBD protocol, or the CAN BUS protocol after 2008, and both are supported by the ELM327).

That doesn't matter... My Punto uses the same Marelli ECU as the older Puntos and Lancia Y did, and yet mine supports EOBD while the older ones don't. There's a law to set the rules on how those things are made. And since the Ibiza is a spanish car (VAG stands for Volkswagen, and those are german), it shares the same interface as all other european cars, be it a Volkswagen, a Fiat, a BMW, a Mercedes, or even a Maseratti!
As long as you have an OBD2 port and your car is OBD2 compliant, you're set to go with an ELM327. A VAG-COM is simply a proprietary cable, it has nothing to do with the model of your ECU. If I plugged a VAG-COM on my Punto, it would work just as well.

I would actually disagree with the above on the basis that VAG actually stands for Volkswagen Audi Group , With Seat being just one of its Subsidiaries ( aswell as Lamborghini , Skoda ect). I purchased an ELM Cable for use with other projects and was unsuccessful to connect it with my Golf GTI 1.8t or a friends Seat 1.8t both with 51 Plates on a variety of software. VAG-COM Software and the Cables, Unlike generic OBD-II/EOBD, uses manufacturer-specific commands, which allows the user to access all diagnostic capable vehicle systems. This was cleverly created by using reverse engineering (Ross tech would cause an error code and see what the Vag Cable Reported back to the PC) OBD-DIAG is the only non VAG tool i got working with my golf but with the Serial Version of the VAG Cable, the USB one would not connect. Nimikipod you are correct on the fact that your Ibiza Uses the Exact Same Engine, ECU ect as the GOLF, And i would be very surprised if you got an ELM Cable to Work .

Dude, unless it's a **** old VAG, an ELM has got to work! The OBD interface and commands are generic, they are a standard, it's not something that this or that company implements while others implement something else. And there's only four varieties of it's implementation:
PWM, some other that GM uses, EOBD, and CANBUS. And all european cars after 2000 for petrol, and 2003 for diesel are required to have EOBD suppost (as do most japanese cars) or CAN BUS after 2008. This is mandatory by the european laws that limit car pollution and emissions.
Perhaps you used a defective ELM327, or an ELM323 on your VAG?
Like I said before, the VAG-COM is a proprietary interface for a proprietary software. They only couple up with each other. If you want to use ELM compatible software, you must have an ELM interface.

That's a pretty common problem... I've had it in the past with my ebay ELM327 too!
Glad you sorted it out!

right, so i saw in the video for dashcommand that you can have different pages. How was this implemented and in what front end. I currently use CF after using RR for a few years and would like to integrate dashcommand.

I'm lead to believe this feature is planned in the next (long awaited) update!

Hey,
i'm getting very strange readings from my elm327 usb device. the unit gets data but it is all scrambled. as an exampel - the rpm meter goes ballistic once i touch the gas pedal (the actual rpm meter goes to 3000 rpm while the dashcommand's goes to 9000 rpm..
is there a way to adjust sensitivity ? can i change the calculation ?
is it a known problem with VW's ??
thanks

Some cars have a different multiplier for the RPM function... Usually it's x/4.

I hope you like it.

Second view called "Fuel View"
Third view called "Engine View"
Fourth view called "Fuel Flow View"
Fifth view and NOT yet finished called "Gear Position"
I will upload dash when it will be finished.
Hey, asmpbm! I installed your gueages and they look great! Have one problem though. Hope you know what I'm missing. O2 sensor readings in "Engine View" screan are not show up in dashcommand. Everything works in PCMSCAN though. Do you have any idea?
