You can use the FileSystemObject that can be loaded as a COM object.

Thanks!
Thank you all, bembowe is the super hero making all of this useable
Btw, I just got my SD running again so I am super happy.
Also, I was thinking, it would be cool to collect all the data where you drive and then auto cache all of those areas as soon as internet is available. What do you think?

I could see that working with my code only if the zipcodes of all the areas that you have driven by can be stored. my code works by retrieving logitude and latitudes based on zipcodes.
this could be an addition at a later phase. Right now, I want to keep it as simple as possible.

update
An update.
The code should be ready for testing this evening. i implemented the rest today during lunch ( wat can i say, i want to see this digimod come to life )
the code needs a bit of cleaning up. nothing major.
A few of you have shown interest in testing this. so when am ready i'll send you a pm with the digimod. for anyone else interested just response to this thread and i'll pm you.
take a hack at it and report any errors back to this thread. if there are suggestion too, let me know. But also bear in mind that I probably will not please everyone.

VE Cache ready for testing
I just realised that i cannot attach a file to a pm message. so everyone gets to test it
After installing you need to register all dlls located in the com folder of this script install directory.
as far as using is concern, if you select city, remember to include the state or else you might get a city is vague.
let me know what you think

Works nice. Good job! Now we need a space utilization display for the cache folder and a way to delete the tiles by area also. The digitalmod would be even better if you could get tiles for your full proposed route. I wonder what info SD supplies that could be used for this. Maybe zipcodes or lat/long data of entire route?

You can get the position of every turn of a route, but there is no way to get an exact vector of the route so the best you could do is assume a straight line between each turn and grab a wide swath of images along it.

Thanks bembowe & marchello2000, look forward to trying it in the morning. Ah, what the heck, my neighbors wont mind me sitting in my car after 11:00 downloading maps of the neighborhood
Stupid question, never installed a digimod before. Do these work as self extracting or do I simply place them in the right place and watch the magic work? I had looked the other night and only found threads on creating, not installing them.

You should just have to double click it or just drag and drop it onto streetdeck and it should install it to the right location.
