VB6 Source and Elm327 for OBD2

Well I see many have started projects on this, but not too many were finished.
I am now going to start, hopefully I will be able to finnish.

I have the Gui laid out so far, just have to clean it up abit then start on the actual interfacing.

Any help/suggestions and source code out there would be great.

Here is an example of what I am trying to go for.

I will post source once I have actually been able to connect to Vehicle
(currently working on auto select of com port.)

Nice job. I have a self-made scanner using the elm327 chip. It's configured as a CAN bus reader. I was looking for a project like this for a long time now.
The layout of all scan software is actually very crowded and not very touch-screen friendly. Please continue this project and try to make your interface as touch-screen friendly as you can.
Will this be made skinnable so we can embed it in a front-end like RoadRunner

Hello, happy to see others starting projects. Mine is actually for the BR-3 unit, since alot of people purchased these, and Frodo was going to make some kind of SDK...

Mine is not an SDK, but a sample of what is necessary to make it work, connecting, sending data, and parsing data returned.

(sorry for getting off topic of the ELM about BR-3)

Maybe later on we can share some code, and get a single ActiveX or SDK going that supports both.

Ok, I have gotten a little further, still just working on the Gui but do have the app reading available com ports.
Will be going to the wreckers this weekend to pick up a Pcm and Harness so I can finish my mock up.
This way I can continue to program here at my desk and not out in the car lol.
Take a look at what I have and let me know if theres any errors, i have testing this on XP only so far.

Again once I am able to communicate with my Mock up, I will post my source.

still working on this, ran into a few road blocks but working them out, I have been able to connect to elm327 and to the van,
having a problem trying to figure out how to wait for a reply from elm before firing next command.
Anyone out there who can help or would like to join me in this project let me know.
Would love to share source codes which each other to get further onlong in project.

I have found a class module from http://www.apeirokalia.com/elm323/ but have not figured out how to use it yet.

Will this software have the ability to log the data as a csv file? I am trying to log engine RPM, MPH, and would love to actually get what gear I am in also. I would like to log all this info to use for video overlay of recorded laps at track days.

I am curious as to what the update rate would be?

Well, I have put my code online on my website. I am currently using it in my custom interface.

http://www.archaicbinary.net under the Downloads Section, Carputer Interface Program. It is in VB6 and talks to the BR-3.

Boombox, I would be interested in any samples you may have, or a website if you have one? Thanks.
